Kennedy Center Honors

Writer Andrew Hansen

Anyone watching? Clive Davis locked arm in arm with I presume his partner during the Dionne tribute was surprising? I thought Meg Ryan looked really good. I'm going to hold out for Queen Latifah and then call it quits.

I am watching but I think it is a re-run from June, 2023.

" Clive Davis locked arm in arm with I presume his partner during the Dionne tribute was surprising?"

Why are you asking?

by Anonymousreply 2December 28, 2023 1:01 AM

Not watching, they make some poor choices with their honors.

by Anonymousreply 3December 28, 2023 1:26 AM

This is the very first year I will miss in many yrs. Latifah makes a mockery of the intent of JFK to honor great artists and their art.

by Anonymousreply 4December 28, 2023 1:42 AM

Rene Fleming tribute was sublime. Latifah was ...meh. I'm watching for Dionne and Billy Crystal. I'm glad I caught Rene Fleming, though.

by Anonymousreply 5December 28, 2023 1:44 AM

Who is the sour-puss behind Crystal?

Secret Service?

by Anonymousreply 6December 28, 2023 1:52 AM

I'm waiting for the Barry Gibb segment.

Clive Davis, ugh. He didn't have the decency to cancel a party when his former client Whitney Houston lay dying on another floor of the hotel.

Oh no! Lin Manuel Miranda! I gotta go take out the garbage.

by Anonymousreply 7December 28, 2023 1:53 AM

Did they already do Dionne or Billy Crystal?

by Anonymousreply 8December 28, 2023 1:59 AM

^ Yes, Barry Gibb is last.

by Anonymousreply 9December 28, 2023 2:02 AM

I thought the show came on at 9PM. I caught part of Latifah and then the Opera singer,. Gloria Estefan looks not so good. Barry Gibb was hot! Damn he looked good when he was young.

by Anonymousreply 10December 28, 2023 2:09 AM

Gladys Knight could use the gain of a few pounds. I hope she isn't ill.

by Anonymousreply 11December 28, 2023 2:10 AM

I want to see the Gibb brother segment.

by Anonymousreply 12December 28, 2023 2:17 AM

I am even enjoying Michael Buble and Ben Platt for once. The Bee Gees did do some great songs.

by Anonymousreply 13December 28, 2023 2:20 AM

Anyone know where can I See Billy Crystal and Dionne? I need to find their segments. Is it streaming yet? I looked at CBS On Demand but there's nothing.

by Anonymousreply 14December 28, 2023 2:35 AM

Bublé made me verklempt.

by Anonymousreply 15December 28, 2023 5:17 AM

What’s up with Ben’s pants?

by Anonymousreply 16December 28, 2023 5:18 AM

R11, I remember there being talk of Gladys’s health as far back as when Aretha died.

by Anonymousreply 17December 28, 2023 5:30 AM

Dione was the first segment. Billy Crystal was second. Both were really good. This Honors broadcast has been one of the best.

by Anonymousreply 18December 28, 2023 2:50 PM

I watched Dionne's and I have to say, that I didn't care for the performances except for Cynthia Erivo. I Don't know why, but I was hoping the Billy Crystal segment would feature...Billy Crystal videos. Meg Ryan and Rob Reiner were f ine, but I wanted Billy.

by Anonymousreply 20December 28, 2023 4:52 PM

The only decent Latifah contribution to American culture.

Gladys looked frail.

Ryan looked great.

Bublé bumbled How Can You Mend a Broken Heart.

That's all I've got.

R7, Cancel it?! The party was the point! Jennifer Hudson performed, was essentially anointed, as the Heiress to Whitney, whose body was then mere floors above her.

Nobody else has ever learned what was in the note a distraught Whitney barged into the interview to hand Brandy the night before she, Whitney, died.

Bobbi Kristina almost drowned in her tub in that hotel the day before. And she did drown in her home bathtub three years later.

I think BK was supposed to be that Grammy's sacrifice, scared the bejeezus out of her mother who decided to offer up herself instead, and the rest is musical history.

This CBS production sure felt the need to repeatedly show its news anchor, Norah O’Donnell, swaying & dancing in the audience.

I've never been a huge Cynthia Erivo fan, but her version of Alfie was FUCKING FLAWLESS. Had me in tears.

by Anonymousreply 25January 9, 2024 2:34 PM

R26, I like Cynthia Erivo, and she did a wonderful job, but honestly no one can sing that song but Dionne. She owns it. IMO it is her signature song. And it always makes me cry.
