Rex is remembered for his appearance in Pirates of Penzance on Broadway, but Andy Gibb took his role for the LA production, R6. He was beautiful, and he and co-star Pam Dawber made a lovely pair.

When I was about five years old my older sisters and I watched 'Sooner or Later' with the girl from Archie Bunker's Place (not Stephanie, the older one) and Rex sang that 'Take My Breath Away' song, which I believe was his only hit. The only other thing I recall is that the girl was so depressed one night she ate an entire sheet cake by herself. I was impressed by that.
