Juneteenth this year is celebrated June 20th.
Christopher Lucas
So shouldn't it be called Junetieth?

I just saw a TV commercial that says we get to wear red, drink soda pop and eat BBQ! Thanks Juneteenth!

It’s always different, like Passover and Thanksgiving. It’s supposed to be the 3rd Saturday in June.
| by Anonymous | reply 3 | June 20, 2022 12:35 AM |
As long as that made sense to you r3.
| by Anonymous | reply 4 | June 20, 2022 12:40 AM |
No, R3, it's always on June 19th. However, like Independence Day, if June 19th (or July 4th) falls on a Saturday or Sunday, then the federal holiday is on the following Monday.
| by Anonymous | reply 5 | June 20, 2022 12:41 AM |
I dont give a shit about any holiday, unless it comes with a 3 day weekend.
| by Anonymous | reply 6 | June 20, 2022 12:43 AM |
Juneteenth is overshadowing Father's Day. That's not fair. Get your own goddamn day!
Father's Day has always been the third Sunday in June.
Since it's a federal holiday, it should be treated like most other holidays and switched to Monday. Juneteenth should be the third Monday in June.

If you shop carefully you might find one

Before it became a federal holiday, it was a state holiday in many states, celebrated on different days in these states. Like Thanksgiving and Presidents Day, it was not celebrated on a specific date.
Delaware had it on “The third Friday of June, known as Juneteenth National Freedom Day,” while Louisiana had it on the 3rd Saturday of June. Now that it is Federal, that will presumably change.

How insensitive is it to celebrate Juneteenth and Father's Day simultaneously

It doesn't matter. Nobody is actually paying attention.

Martin Luther King Day also took years for states to figure out.

June 20th is ALSO...WEST VIRGINIA DAY! I'd love to celebrate by removing Manchin & Capito from office. But I'll have to settle for a pepperoni roll instead.

About 15 years ago I had a black supervisor, really smart and capable woman. Sometime in the early part of June, she referred to a Juneteenth celebration she was speaking at. I asked "What's Juneteenth?" The look she gave me was icy, and she just walked off. I found out and felt awful. As an elementary and secondary student in wealthy NJ suburbs, just never heard about it (first encountered mention of Holocaust as a senior in HS, although coming from a Jewish family I knew about it). The irony is that when I was an undergrad in the early 70's, I took a few Black History courses as electives and read lots of the literature. Of course, then the focus was on Eldredge Cleaver, the Black Panthers, and the SCLC.
I really was just a well meaning liberal ignorant of history that didn't serve white America. We need a national curriculum that reflects the true history of America.

Father's Day and Juneteenth, my favorite holidays after recycled hotdog day (which also falls on June 19th)
| by Anonymous | reply 17 | June 20, 2022 2:18 AM |
It's not a real holiday until there is a mass shooting.

Juneteenth and Kwanzaa are totally fake holidays. No one celebrated them before the 21st century.

It wouold be better to celebrate Emancipation Day Jan 1 and not wait for those fucking Texans to catch up.

I had a run in with a woman at Walmart who was upset that there was a MLK Day AND Junteenth because all The Blacks get too many holidays. I stopped and informed her that Lincoln freed all the white slaves as well. She was speechless.

Kwanzaa was created & first celebrated in 1966. Juneteenth was first celebrated ONE HUNDRED YEARS BEFORE THAT, R19.

ALL holidays are created. All holidays are completely fake. They change.
We haven't celebrated the English King's birthday in a while.

I just got back from my country club's Juneteenth costume party. I'd post pics but I don't want to get the place shut down.

It gives credence to the notion that the left (which is led by radical feminists) has much disregard for fathers.

MILWAUKEE —
Milwaukee Police said a 39-year-old woman was shot while walking on the sidewalk near 5th and Burleigh streets in Milwaukee.
That area is on the corner of Rose Park, where Juneteenth celebrations had just concluded.
The shooting was caught on camera.

Louisville Mayor assaulted at Juneteenth event
Louisville’s Democrat Mayor Greg Fischer, who is white, got punched by a random person on Saturday night while attending a Juneteenth event.
The incident took place at Fourth Street Live, a dining an entertainment venue, which was hosting Juneteenth celebrations throughout the weekend.
The mayor had participated in the “Race for Justice” in honor of Breonna Taylor and the “Kentuckiana Pride Parade” earlier in the day.
The suspect appears to be a black male.

No white people showed up to the parade in my city. Guess they didn't want to get shot.
