I’d love to see his line of Moroccan poufs.

I like his style and what he creates. He truly LIVES his aesthetic. I could not live with literally everything I own being shabby and threadbare, but he does, and it works for him. He's built a little mini-empire out of shabby and threadbare-looking merchandise. I like his stuff used lightly in an interior.

Julianne Moore has a townhouse in NYC? Seriously?

Suzie Orman says you should save 15% of your gross pay and not buy unnecessary crap in order to provide for your future.
Do you think Suzie regards Mr. Derian's stuff as unnecessary crap?

I almost impulsively bought the mushroom platter, but realized I don’t need it.

I like holiday kitsch even if it's frau-y. That said, there's not much here I would buy. But, I'd get the blue turkey platter and the turkey gravy boat.
| by Anonymous | reply 18 | October 18, 2023 3:53 AM |
It's only 20 dollars, why not??
| by Anonymous | reply 19 | October 18, 2023 4:21 AM |
I wouldn't call his style Shabby Chic. It's more kitsch than patina, which surprises me.
I knew him as the decoupage tray and paperweight guy (link below), with a taste for slightly wry 19thC typography and graphics applied to tabletop geegaws.
The stuff in OP's link is utter shit. Can't fault him, I suppose, for taking a big check for a licensing contract rather than plug away with scissors and glue making paperweights for €/£/$140 ("the perfect host/ess gift") and a twee little trays in which to empty the coins and contents of a pocket before bed (always lifted by a coke fiend, and so always a good gift.)
But damn, this Turkey Lurkey shit is ugly. And common.
Not sure I've even his his own digs before. Disappointing. All that time fussing over bibelots has fucked up his sense of scale: it's a house of spindly, underscale lamps and underscale everything, and too many too tentative things.

I’m not a holiday tablescape kind of guy, but I want private time with his shelves of crockery (shown in the AD link) and I’m looking up his collaboration with Astier de Villate - their simpler, unadorned china fascinates me.

Is it supposed to be ugly?

I don't have a mushroom fetish but if I did, this product offering would scratch that itch for no money. The most expensive product is a mere 20 dollars..

Some of the stuff is really quite nice, and its very reasonably priced, unlike so much "designer" stuff. I dont need any of it, but if I was furnishing a place from scratch I'd definitely consider it, there isnt a lot of modern stuff I like at this sort of price point.
His apartment at R5 isnt quite to my taste, but I still prefer it to a lot I've seen on here, it looks comfortable and lived in, and those pressed tin/ moulded ceilings are fantastic. I could live in that happily enough. Is he gay? My gaydar is shit, so I really dont know

The throw blanket, which resembles a tea towel in the pic, is the most expensive item featured at 30 dollars.
This stuff is inexpensive.
I don't like this kitshy stuff but many people are obsessed with Thanksgiving and have to go all out decorating with the theme.

Ha! This pillow is priced at 40 dollars and there is a lot of interest in the item on the Target website!

There is something so appealing about folksy tat like this. It makes me remember being a small kid and admiring kitsch like this (our grandmother had a Turkey-shaped candle, and I remember the smell of the paraffin wax and the eight of it in my hands).
Out neighbor also displayed holiday tat on Halloween and I would wait for her green and black cardboard witch to appear each October.
Vintage holiday tat is a secret pleasure of mine because it recalls the most innocent, optimistic time in life. I love it .

In the present cost of living crisis I would not spend the money, but 5 years I ago I would have loved this séance serving platter from Astier de Villatte - it’s just the right level of kitsch and would be great for Halloween.
