I’ve loved him forever.
Was once jogging on the treadmill at the gym. Bank of TVs in front of me. No sound.
Happened to catch the scene in “the Manchurian Candidate” remake when Jeffrey Wright approaches Denzel, begs him for help, then kind of cringes and slinks away in shame when he sees Denzel’s disdain for him.
Suddenly I couldn’t breathe, had to jump off the treadmill, and burst into tears.
This was almost 20 years ago, and I remember it like it was yesterday.

It's about time, indeed.
Jeffrey Wright's soliloquy in "Lackawanna Blues" has that effect on me, R1. Brilliant actor whose time at long last has come.

He’s a great actor and deserves to have an Oscar. He won’t get it this year, but I hope this means he gets it the next time he does a movie.
His Belize in Angels in America is one of my favorite performances ever.

R6 Who do you think will win?

r1 wins the coveted "MARY! of the Week" award.

He’s a good actor but that movie isn’t good enough to rack up the nominations it got. And Wright’s performance as the put-upon, frustrated Everyman (African American edition) is true to the role, but not good enough to win an Oscar.
He would better deserve to win the Supporting Actor Oscar for playing Adam Clayton Powell in “Rustin,” he was riveting in that.

His performance in American Fiction was splendidly pellucid.
