JADE (1995) directed by William Friedkin
John Thompson
Another Joe Eszterhas-scripted disaster, released just three weeks after Showgirls. I think it’s a camp classic in its own right.
David Caruso trying to be a sex symbol, Loreena McKennitt’s infernal wailing on the soundtrack, African sex masks, drawers full of pubes, Chinatown car chases, Angie Everhart.
Anyone else a fan?

I'd always heard it was a camp disaster, so I gave it a shot during the lockdown and found myself bored senseless. Has one of those terrible endings where the movie just cuts off as if the studio misplaced the final reel somewhere.

The movie is ludicrous and, as noted, ends roughly where you expect the third act to begin.
The film's great sin, though, was not encouraging Linda Fiorentino to let out her inner cunt as she had so brilliantly in The Last Seduction.

I always thought it odd that the Getty family let them stage the gruesome murder scene in their house. Just the idea of seeing stage blood around my place would be too much.
I loved the part in the film when the wife has to give her husband a blowjob in the Living Room- what a great life she had- and when the good guy's car is knocked off the wharf into the bay by a bad guy in a dark sedan. lol
Horrid movie but great on some levels.

Personally, I enjoyed it for Angie Everhart, playing a character that's almost impossible to play - a hair styliist who also doubles as a call girl who gets to say lines line "Nobody wanted me - it was always JADE they wanted" and "I'm also into chicks too!"

I thought it was fun. Not a great movie (probably not even a good movie) but I enjoyed it. Angie Everhart was the best part about it.

I get this film mixed up with "Color of Night."

David Caruso....the epitome of wan.

I like Linda Fiorentino and found Jade entertaining because of that--the florid, operatic plot was plus. I love her tough girl attitude and she is very attractive especially because she looks likes she's getting a kick out of the awful movie she's in.
