Jacob Elordi reveals he turned down Superman

Writer Robert Guerrero

The stylists humorously put him in Clark Kent glasses confirming he’d be perfect for the role. Granted the James Gunn film is shaping up to be a trainwreck.

He looks more like Clark Kent than Henry Cavill whose Clark Kent just looked like Superman with glasses

How is it shaping up to be a trainwreck?

by Anonymousreply 2November 13, 2023 12:49 PM

R2 James Gunn is adding all these tertiary DC characters instead of just concentrating on Clark, Lois and the Superman cannon

What a weirdly constructed photo.

by Anonymousreply 5November 13, 2023 6:06 PM

The parts are better than the whole.

by Anonymousreply 6November 13, 2023 6:20 PM

^"The parts are better than the hole." That's what I thought too, till David Corenswet "auditioned". He was much more co-operative than this Elordi or that big bitch Cavill. Gawd!

by Anonymousreply 7November 13, 2023 6:45 PM

Maybe they’ll cast box office poison Brie Larson as Lois.

by Anonymousreply 8November 13, 2023 6:54 PM

Henry Cavill IS Superman. Gunn has already made a fatal miscalculation.

by Anonymousreply 9November 13, 2023 6:57 PM

David Corenswet looks so similar to Cavill that “Henry Cavill from Shein” trended on Twitter when the casting was announced.

by Anonymousreply 10November 13, 2023 7:07 PM

Corenswet looks like a more polished version of Cavill.

by Anonymousreply 11November 13, 2023 7:11 PM

[quote] Henry Cavill IS Superman.

lol. That’s why the films flopped. Sorry, but baldy Cavill is not Superman.

by Anonymousreply 13November 13, 2023 7:12 PM

Elordi's face/features are too asymmetrical for Superman.

by Anonymousreply 14November 13, 2023 7:12 PM

The photo for the GQ cover shows a very symmetrical face to me.

by Anonymousreply 15November 13, 2023 7:16 PM

Super geek. Looks like a weenie.

by Anonymousreply 16November 13, 2023 7:43 PM

Brie Larson actually may have made a good Lois. Lois should be ornery.

by Anonymousreply 17November 13, 2023 8:24 PM

While I don't doubt that he was in the running, I seriously doubt he got offered the role and turned it down.

From what the various "insider" reports say, it was always Corenswet's to lose.

by Anonymousreply 18November 13, 2023 9:04 PM

He says he was asked to read and turned it down. He never said it was offered to him a la Josh Hartnett or Chris Evans.

by Anonymousreply 19November 13, 2023 9:41 PM

how is this guy a heartthrob? he's got a really small mouth and parts of his face looks squished.

by Anonymousreply 21November 13, 2023 10:03 PM

What r19 said. If you actually read the article it says clear as day they wanted him to audition for Superman, not that he was offered the role.

by Anonymousreply 22November 13, 2023 10:33 PM

I find his claim that he's obsessed with the Brando/McQueen era of Hollywood and simultaneously that he'd never heard of Elvis outside of Lilo and Stitch hard to believe. If you're so obsessed with the classic Hollywood that you're reading books about that time, how is it even remotely possible you somehow avoid hearing even tangentially about Elvis?

by Anonymousreply 23November 13, 2023 10:50 PM

On the last movie he watched

[quote]“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem,” he says excitedly. “I've seen that movie four times. That movie is so funny. Those kids, I think they're so hilarious. It’s super, super meticulous and well thought-out. In the hotels, it's been my comfort movie.”

On superhero movies

[quote] “And obviously anything can happen, but at this stage in my life, I don’t see myself having any interest in that. I like to make what I would watch, and I get very restless watching those movies.”

by Anonymousreply 24November 13, 2023 10:52 PM

R23 Jesus Christ, you seriously take talk show banter literally? What are you, autistic?

(This is no offense to Jacob who is probably on the Spectrum.)

Ah look, it's the Aspergers frau troll

by Anonymousreply 26November 14, 2023 12:28 AM

Jacob Elordi looks like a more handsome Bob Saget. He would be great for a live-action Curious George as the Man in the Big Yellow Hat.

by Anonymousreply 27November 14, 2023 12:45 AM

R15 you’ve heard of photoshop haven’t ya?

by Anonymousreply 28November 14, 2023 12:50 AM

I don't understand how one can grow up in the Western world without ever hearing about Elvis Presley. I didn't think Australia was that remote.

by Anonymousreply 29November 14, 2023 5:39 AM

Is Superman supposed to have a disgusting, giant black mole on his abdomen that on Krypton means “hatred”?

by Anonymousreply 30November 14, 2023 6:17 AM

I have been alive 48 years. Every Superman is a train wreck. It never takes off. The actors who land the role always end up cursed and never really work again. The franchise is cursed. Why do they keep trying to make it happen? It's not a Batman or Spiderman.

by Anonymousreply 31November 14, 2023 7:46 AM

Not to sound pedantic, but it's Spider-Man, with a hyphen and capital M.

They did that deliberately, because otherwise it looks very similar to Superman in print.

by Anonymousreply 32November 14, 2023 7:53 AM

[quote]Not to sound pedantic

You failed.

by Anonymousreply 33November 14, 2023 7:58 AM

Yes, a 6'5" Clark Kent would never be thought of as a 6'5" Superman.

by Anonymousreply 34November 14, 2023 8:58 AM

"King of Hollywood"?! Oh, my stars! If the $300M Box Office Butler Elvis wasn't dubbed this, the Elordi version ain't deserving. Moreover, the talk of "Priscilla" Oscars, or even nominations, is absurd, and in any case will not compete with the 8 nominations for "Elvis," plus Austin Butler’s GG and BAFTA wins (Hello, Cillian!).

A vengeful movie stemming from the icon's faux-widow's bitterness at her depiction in Baz Luhrmann's film and without the icon's music simply cannot generate the Box Office that "Elvis" did. Or does Priscilla---or Jacob or Sofia---have legions of fans world-wide of whom I'm unaware?

Anyway, Isn't Timothee supposed to be King? 😆

by Anonymousreply 35November 14, 2023 9:15 AM

R35 are you really that butthurt over standard GQ puffery?

by Anonymousreply 36November 14, 2023 10:19 AM

[quote] The actors who land the role always end up cursed and never really work again.

Henry Cavill has three theatrical films out next year, plus a Highlander reboot about to film plus Disney’s Hercules .

by Anonymousreply 37November 14, 2023 10:22 AM

LOL apparently the photo shoot was styled to make him look like Yves St Laurent, not Clark Kent

Elordi, Cavill, Corenswet? I’d love to be in charge of that casting couch. I think Cavill has flopped because the movies are too serious. People want some fun in those movies.

by Anonymousreply 39November 14, 2023 12:05 PM

This guy has a really “off” energy about him.

by Anonymousreply 40November 14, 2023 12:38 PM

[quote]This guy has a really “off” energy about him.

I think as we see Gen Z mature and Gen Alpha grow up, we will start noticing a lot of people with what we now call "off energy." They aren't like us.
