Stupidity on both sides in that case. What is so difficult about saying "Social Security number"?

Asking for one's "social" is pretty much the norm these days when your SS # is required. Most people with an IQ above 80 know what they're asking for.

Seems like a very minor thing to get your panties in a wad about.

My boomer brother, upon being asked how he likes his steak, answered, “cooked”. TBF, he was 10.

It wasn't a member of Gen Z who named the son Fallon

So this kid, who is probably around 16 years old, didn't know what was meant by "social" when asked for his social security number at a bank. I would guess this kid may have been vaguely aware that there was something called a social security number and that there may be one assigned to him. But I doubt that at any point in his young life he was ever responsible for knowing what that number was. Up until now, its only real purpose in his life was for his parents to use when filing their taxes, which I'm sure this kid would not have been involved with. So having never really utilized his social security number in any situation where he was directly involved, he is dumb because he didn't know "social" in this situation meant "social security number"? I would imagine that up until this event, any time he was asked for his "social" it was always in the context of his "social media accounts". That would be the logical first thing to pop into his mind.
I'm 58 years old and I don't think I was aware of my "social" until I started my first job at age 17. Even then, I doubt I would have known that my "social" would be used and required in many other situations beyond my employment. If someone had asked 16-year old me what my "social" was, I wouldn't have given them my social media accounts (since that wasn't a thing back in 1981). But I might have been a little confused by the term since I had no real experience in my life that would have made it clear what was being asked for.

FAIL as a scandal or having any meaning whatsoever.
LAME, OP.
Social security number please. For crissakes be clear.
Many people in authority are going to check this boys SOCIAL MEDIA activity more than his social security number.

They were born with a cell phone up their ass, so kind of hard to be normal. And those who mock them are likely of the generation that birthed and raised them so, who's really to blame for their stupidity?

In response to r2, I've changed my opinion to "The kid isn't to blame because the guy asking for his 'social' is a moron." Yes, I know it's common usage, but it's stupid not to pitch your language with some awareness of who you're talking to.
