Walt Whitman line, I've always loved it. I've never seen Fame though.

You’re really missing something R3. The movie is wonderful. It really captures the time and place and aspirations of wannabe stars. The movie soundtrack is truly one of the best ever.

That arrangement, R4, promotes a conversational voice that lacks energy and sounds flat.

It’s the Mason Reese of singing - a no-talent affair that’s supposed to be adorably innocent and accessible to any assface who takes time to memorize words..

These are supposed to be first year students. Any voice instructor would have poked these little shits with a beat stick by this point and there would be some focus and build to the song.

Caught this on youtube recently, I was watching the vid of that girl swearing her ass off when Leroy goes forward in the audition and she didn’t, and it again it struck me that with all those singing majors at the school, why does Paul McCrane’s character and the girl who failed at dancing and becomes an actress instead both get key solos in this song?

Because they’re main characters in the movie. It’s not real life. Also, her beautiful voice was meant to be a surprise since the last we had seen of her was her failing out of dance class.

R8 But then why not Doris? I searched for her all through the song and there’s only a small cameo and it’s more about her parents reaction? Doris deserved better!

In the movie, how does Montgomery live alone in Times Square? Didn’t they have Child Welfare Services back then?

This was the best scene in the whole movie. We have plenty of movies about the joy of winning. Nobody covers the pain of rejection without turning it into a learning experience.

R10 His mother was a prominent actress and it may even have been her legal residence address. It was also NYC in the ‘70, bankrupted and corrupt and social services understaffed and barely functioning. An upper aged teen living on their own would have been the least of their concerns.
