A gyro or gyros (/ˈdʒaɪroʊ, ˈʒɪər-, ˈjɪər-, ˈɡɪər-/; Greek: γύρος, romanized: yíros/gyros, lit. 'turn', pronounced [ˈʝiros]) is a Greek dish made from meat cooked on a vertical rotisserie.

Like HERO but with a gutteral G.
Although friends and I have pronounced it JY-ROE (thinking we're funny) for so long that now we've normalized it to ourselves, which is scary! We also pronounced jalepeno as" Ja-LOP-a-no" being cute and have to think twice before saying it in public!

The relevance here being the presence of juicy meat and a spit-roast? Greek-style?

But a Greek guy told that that is how you can always spot Americans. He said the correct pronunciation is "GY-row"
