Miss Davis would be so very ashamed of her Yankee hometown....

At least the drug addicted prostitute in this documentary is thoughtful enough to abort her child.

I love this documentary. There was a band in Orlando who had a song called "Brenda and Boo Boo."
The other great HBO drug doc is the one that follows 2 heroin and crack addicted couples in NYC over a year. It is positively brutal, but in a different way than HOCS.

Cape Cod Heroin was good too and sad. One of the participants died after the film was made.

"Cracked Not Broken" is also worth watching.

I love gritty documentaries. An excellent one was Begging Naked. Not about drug addiction but a very mentally ill artist living in NYC. She was renting an a converted air shaft for years and eventually become homeless.

R6 Michelle was so damn annoying, I didn't feel sorry for her when Sebastian kicked her in the ass.

Dicky Eklund's mother in HOCS was so fucking delusional it was painful to watch.

What happens to those people after filming is tragic. I was hoping some would get help.

There's a fascinating Canadian documentary called Who Cares about drug addicted street prostitutes in Edmonton. I always wonder how many of them are dead now.

Sounds similar to "Hookers at the Point" on HBO, fascinating stuff.

You would think missing your two front teeth would rule out a career in hooking.
I guess not (?)

Janet from another Planet was my favorite

I felt sad about the pregnant woman. I really wanted her to get out of that life.

Janice Ellis (aka Janet From Another Planet) was murdered in the early hours of May 8, 2006 by Frank Eberhart. She allegedly attempted to sell him "fake crack" and drew a knife on him, though Eberhart was uninjured. Her body lay in Eberhart's apartment for four days until her murderer attempted to dispose of her body by wrapping it with a carpet and leaving it in an alley.[6] An appeals court upheld his life sentence in 2010.

she was sort of a secondary character

Seems the light eyed go for heroin. These dark eyes love the cocaine and crack. I've always found it to be true. Guess it's liver enzymes and genetics. Worst crackheads ever always had some Mediterranean background. Drunks and Indians the drink . Indigenous or Irish background. Drug researches really need to delve into this. Blacks do crack but not do much meth or heroin Something for researchers to consider if we're gonna customize rehabilitation.
Crack, like alcohol never discriminated if you pull back and make observations. Every drug seems to be beatable but crack. It's the pancreatic cancer of addictions that targets some great people with so much promise. Been around, me. My personal conclusion.

Please don't give up on your ESL classes quite yet, r21.

I know an ex crackhead of Eastern Europeans ancestry who is now clean. He was never on the same level as these people though he always managed to keep one foot in normal society.

There may be some truth to that R21. I have ice blue eyes like a sled dog and I am all about opiates...never uppers,

R21, I'm as white as Nicole Kidman and never felt any enjoyment from the opiates I've taken for various medical issues. I mean I was on IV morphine and dilaudid for a week once, with various pain pills afterwards, and didn't enjoyed the feeling I got from them. Never felt any temptation to take the damn things for any reason but physical pain, because I just didn't get the euphoric feelings other people have described.
Alcohol, on the other hand, always made me feel warm and wonderful, and it's been a major problem for me.

R21 I agree with you about crack being the pancreatic cancer of drugs. I have been through rehab twice for my opiate-benzo issues, and each time I was there the crack patients just broke my heart. They simply cannot let it go.
The last time I was in for 30 days I met this great guy who was smart as a tack, had a pretty job and was so very nice and fun to be with. When he was released I had so much hope for him, and damn if he wasn't back 2 days after release(after 1 36 hour binge, he drove himself back to the facility.) I have made a lot of mistakes in my life, but thank god I never tried smoking rock.
