HBO's White Lotus THREAD FOUR

Writer Christopher Lucas

[quote][R524]This is the current American disease... "something is true because I believe it." And the "source" of my belief is... "I know a lot of people..." ("no, it's true, if you get COVID vaccinated your veins glow in the dark... a friend of my cousin showed him!”)

Wow, who is the argumentative moron here? Certainly not me. I post FACTUAL information that a lot of the people I know have decent pension plans. However, to YOU, that translates to: “Something is true because I believe it.” WTF? I believe it because I know it's a bloody fact. A large portion of my friends and family members have pensions, FACT.

I don’t need to read a linked 'article', I realize many people don’t have pension plans and that’s likely their fault. Many stayed at jobs because they liked the work, it was something they enjoyed doing. They were happy with their salaries, 401K (or whatever savings plan their company provided), their paid vacations and paid Holidays, the option of keeping the health plans after retirement in lieu of a pension (then allowing the spouse or partner to keep the same health insurance after the late worker died), many people are simply happy to have a steady job with some benefits. Their are many variables, yet you choose to ignore them.

Others are clueless, they don't understand Social Security won't be enough for their old age, while others don't realize their health insurance plans, even if they are allowed to keep them after retirement, won't cover long term nursing home care. Lots of people are simply poor planners. While, others got their jobs when they were young, stayed 'forever' and clearly didn’t care about the future, that also applies to many older people who don’t have pensions.

I work in a creative field, many people in these fields freelance, they don’t have pensions, let alone health insurance, they must and do pay for their health insurance, they have their own pension plans. Freelancers must be be savvy and save for their future. Freelancers usually make much more than staff people, that's usually the case because they have zero perks, just their paychecks, compared to staff workers.

Most of the freelance creatives I know make great money, that have reliable steady accounts, they are always working, I know a freelance art director, they also have graphic design and photography accounts, this person makes about $450,000 year. If anyone making that sort of money is unable to save for the future, that’s their problem. They are hopeless.

Posting an article which doesn’t touch upon the fact that many states still have extremely powerful city and state union jobs, which provide fantastic pensions, only helps your narrative. Next time, post both sides of the story.

Honestly, go fuck yourself.
