Have we ever discussed Dale Dickey?
Harper Scott
Great at hillbilly characters. How did she get so weathered looking? I do see glimpses of a very pretty woman she must have been.
I just watched a quiet little movie last night that she starred in and got to thinking of her.

I love her in everything she does. She's like a female Danny Trejo type character.

The poor man's Beth Grant.

Great actress, and yes, rough looking. She looks like Diana Scarwid if she'd spent 10 years on a meth bender living in a tent. She is currently 61, but even a decade ago, she looked like she could've been older than that. I suspect she probably had a substance abuse problem in her past.

I'm sure she did, R3, glad she can parlay that into playing that type of character. I always notice her too and wonder why no one talks about her, I guess cause she's just a character actress but I bet she does well financially from it.

Speaking of Diana Scarwid, I always thought she was rather plain looking and dumpy in Mommie Dearest. I just looked her up and was flabbergasted to see she was/is very attractive. It must have been her hairstyle and wardrobe in MD that made her so frumpy looking.

Was it A Love Song about her reuniting with a childhood boyfriend? That was a nice little film and she was great in it.

Yes, R6. It was nice but the ending was so odd. Definitely not the typical Hollywood ending but it was nice to have a movie with dialogue and not loud explosions and action. The cowboy family who kept popping up were humorous.

She’s an extremely fine actress and, like billions of people on this earth, very plain looking. That doesn’t mean she’s had addiction problems. As far as I know, she never has.

I saw this minor Del Shores piece on stage in a tiny theater many years ago. Starred a pre-fame Octavia Spencer (as a character named LaSonia, pronounced "lasagna"), Beth Grant, and Dale Dickey. I had no idea they turned it into a movie.

R8 I don't know if it's that she's "plain" looking. She more looks ravaged in the way that a lot of recovering addicts do (particularly people who were addicted to meth). Of course we'll never know unless he says so herself. It could just be bad genes and a lot of sun exposure, but she certainly resembles someone who has had this problem.
