He was only in a few movies but they were all great: The Conversation, Dog Day Afternoon, The Deer Hunter, The Godfather I & 2. Amazing performances, he steals the screen and he's working with DeNiro, Pacino, Hackman! I just saw the doc I Knew It Was You. Wow.

I can't figure out what the relationship with Streep was about. Supposedly she loved him, was at his side constantly while he was dying in the hospital (according to Al Pacino), and she was absolutely crushed when he died.

And a few months later, she married Don Gummer, the guy whose apartment she sublet once Cazale died. I mean...what? How can anybody move on THAT quickly?

It's weird, that's what it is. Weird.

R2 he probably looked like a profile booster and she knew is she didn't stick by him when he was sick it would come back to bite her sterling reputation in the ass.

It is odd that Streep married so quickly after Cazale's death. You'd think she'd have waited a bit.

She did have a really hard time after his death and may have latched on to Gummer who was safe and she got to know mostly at a distance thru letters and phone calls since he was studying abroad and she was subletting his apartment.

She was evicted from the apartment she shared with Cazale by an ex-girlfriend of his who was still on the lease. Word got out in mafia circles and Streep had to deal with people offering to kill the woman because they were outraged what she did to Fredo's girl.

Gummer may have been a safe port in a storm.

G is actually the one with the checkered love life. 3 ex-husbands, one finance that she never made it down the aisle with, a baby daddy, Woody Harrelson and Robert Pastorelli who od'd after they broke up.

(and of course worst of all no Oscar.)

R2, this happens more often than you might think. Some people hate being alone, they always need to be in a relationship. Others are so depleted by watching someone die that they need to affirm that they are alive and that life goes on.
