Gina Lollobrigida.....
Harper Scott
......Gets star on Hollywood Walk of Fame. A quick story of no importance, decades ago I went to a play in NYC to see Liz Taylor overact and this old gal sat next to me. She was solo. Very sweet and chatted up a storm. It was the lovely Miss Gina. Looks like she gets a lot of mileage out of that wig. She doesn’t look much different 30 years later at age 90. That is all.

About 10 years ago, Liza Minnelli did a summer concert in a park adjacent to Coney Island. At one point during her patter, she said she had a guest in the audience she wanted to introduce. "Ladies and gentlemen, please give a warm round of applause for my friend, Miss Gina Lollobrigida!"
Up she popped and took a bow. I never expected to find Gina Lollobrigida at Coney Island.

A more subtle outfit perhaps. She looks like a Munchkin.

OP, what did she talk about?
| by Anonymous | reply 3 | February 3, 2018 3:12 PM |
Oh, just small talk (how exciting to see Elizabeth on stage) but since it has been such a long time ago the only thing I really remember was her thoughts on how beautiful the fall foliage was in car trip she took in the Vermont area. And how lovely it was to still be recognized and the warmth of fans. Sorry, nothing particularly earth shattering.

I loved her in "Buona Sera, Mrs. Campbell."
| by Anonymous | reply 6 | February 3, 2018 4:34 PM |
She was a very good and under-rated comedic actress.

A poor man’s Sophia Loren. Strictly a second-tier star in the Hollywood firmament.

I love her surname.
You can do it in a mock-Italian accent and roll those syllables around your mouth.

I always preferred Gina's looks to Sophia Loren's.

In college, a singing teacher used her name as a vocalise. Lotsa vowels!
"I love Gina Lo Llo Bri Gi Da Ah - aaaaahh...",
Repeat, up a half step and so on.

Sorry for posting twice above.
She could look quite different for her film roles.

Sophia Loren, Yvonne De Carlo and Gina.

Even as she matured, she was still a beauty.

A front view of the photo at R17.

Gina also had a lovely singing voice, not really utilized in her film career.

I mentioned the syllables of her name in my mouth R9.
But I don't know if there is a correct form.
Most say 'Lolla-BRIDGE-a-dah'.
I wonder if you need to ramp up the rhythm and say 'Lolla-bra-GEE-dah'.

Very cool find, R20, I had no idea she could sing.

It would appear she forgave Elizabeth for that most embarrassing fashion faux pas r5. Or did she attend to throw tomatoes?

My father loved her. Thought she was the sexiest of all the Italian actresses of their day.

Lol-lo-BREE-gee-dah
What took so long to give her a star ? Her first Hollywood film was 65 years ago with "Beat the Devil" (1953), with Humphrey Bogart.

Well, she appears to have better pipes than Soph...

Gina and the famous Italian cut.

Great photo, R23. Eddie Fisher wrote about that same dress incident in his book. It was at the Moscow Film Festival in 1961, and apparently Liz was furious. Yves St Laurent sold Liz the Dior gown personally. When Liz confronted him afterwards, Laurent said Gina's own dressmaker copied his design, and there was nothing he could do.

Lucy and the Italian cut.

She looks amazing for an almost 90 year old. With a better wig she’d look enough younger because she has a small, pretty face and the wig has too much volume. I thought it was a hat at first.
I watch Come September every year. Great little movie.

Remember that photo from about 1960 showing Liz and Gina wearing identical dresses at some event?

R8, Basta! I was a star in Europe and America long before anyone outside a Neapolitan whorehouse had ever heard of Scicolone! If anything, Miss Loren is a poor man's Gina Lollobrigida.

Miss Loren is 7 years younger, 4 times richer, got an Oscar and starred in bigger films.
But, on the other hand, Miss Loren has a wide, jagged mouth, loose lower lip and crude, wide cheekbones which, I think, renders her more of a peasant than La Lolla-bra-GEE-dah.

Madame Loren was a whore darling and Miss Gina wasn't. Gina also sampled David Cassidy's big cock while Loren got to fuck the fugly Carlo Ponti....YUCK!

I love when the Flintstones called her "Gina Loadofbricks" LOL
