This is very melodramatic...

The Carrie Coon character needs to get put in check. I’m rooting for Mrs. Astor because, well, it’s the goddess Donna Murphy.

by Anonymousreply 1August 24, 2023 2:18 AM

Chock a block full of NYC/Broadway's best, just like S1.

by Anonymousreply 2August 24, 2023 2:19 AM

The cast for Season 2 also includes Louisa Jacobson, Ben Ahlers, Michael Cerveris, Kelley Curran, Taissa Farmiga, Jack Gilpin, Simon Jones, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Claybourne Elder, Debra Monk, Kristine Nielsen, Kelli O’Hara, Patrick Page, Harry Richardson, Taylor Richardson, Blake Ritson, Douglas Sills, Erin Wilhelmi, Ashlie Atkinson, Laura Benanti, Nicole Brydon Bloom, Christopher Denham, David Furr, Ward Horton, Matilda Lawler, and Robert Sean Leonard.

I really hope we have more scenes between Christine Baranski and Audra McDonald‘s characters considering they co-starred together and had great chemistry in THE GOOD FIGHT.

by Anonymousreply 4August 26, 2023 3:23 AM

I'm looking forward to Ada having a romance. They need to get the two sisters out of their house.

by Anonymousreply 7August 27, 2023 3:53 PM

I forgot about Louisa Jacobson 😐

by Anonymousreply 8August 27, 2023 3:56 PM

Completely understandable, R8.

She underwhelms in every possible way.

by Anonymousreply 9August 28, 2023 2:25 AM

I love the costume design.

by Anonymousreply 10August 28, 2023 2:46 AM

No Oscar, and only a brief shot of Peggy. Meh.

by Anonymousreply 11August 30, 2023 3:14 PM

It's sad the show has taken such pains to incorporate African-Americans intelligently into a substantial part of it, and yet the trailer would never make you aware of that.

by Anonymousreply 12August 30, 2023 3:53 PM

I can't stand this show. The characters are bitchy, mean, and greedy. The black woman seems like a put in for the sake of having a black character, and none of the men are handsome. I like Broadway actors but this show is a bore. American snobs just aren't like their British counterpoints- not enough history behind them.

by Anonymousreply 14October 17, 2023 5:39 PM

It's back this weekend! Will you be watching each week or will you wait until a few episodes/the entire season has aired and binge them in batches?

by Anonymousreply 15October 26, 2023 7:32 PM

Is it weekly or dropping in one batch? I thought it was all landing at once. Maybe am confusing with The Crown.

by Anonymousreply 16October 26, 2023 7:35 PM

Depends on how enjoyable it is, R15. Hopefully something will actually fucking HAPPEN during this season!

by Anonymousreply 17October 26, 2023 11:18 PM

R14, if you can't stand the show on those criteria, how the hell can you stand DL?

by Anonymousreply 18October 26, 2023 11:20 PM

The episode descriptions are up on google. This season is built around the Metropolitan Opera House vs. the Academy of Music. Just when you thought it couldn't get more exciting!

by Anonymousreply 19October 27, 2023 8:38 PM

R19... any tip as to what this big plot twist is?

by Anonymousreply 20October 27, 2023 8:40 PM

I am always right and never wrong!

by Anonymousreply 21October 29, 2023 6:53 PM

r14: None of the men are handsome? Are you Stevie Wonder? Harry Richardson as Larry Russell is fucking gorgeous!

by Anonymousreply 22October 29, 2023 8:39 PM

Baranski looks terrible. And her rhinoplasty rivals Nanette Fabray’s and Sissy Spacek’s in terms of sheer awfulness.

by Anonymousreply 23October 29, 2023 9:26 PM

If Claybourne doesn't present hole in episode one I'm out.

by Anonymousreply 24October 29, 2023 9:32 PM

I'm not sure Claybourne returns.

by Anonymousreply 25October 29, 2023 9:33 PM

Hope so. Oscar's story would be quite dull without John Adams on the verge of a nervous breakdown.

by Anonymousreply 27October 29, 2023 9:48 PM

R22 My God is your taste so bland that whatever young dude they place on that show is considered hot?

by Anonymousreply 28October 30, 2023 6:59 PM

r14 is one of those sorry as DL bitches who jerks off to Timothée Chalamet.

by Anonymousreply 29October 30, 2023 10:20 PM

Man, I missed this show and the DL discussion it generates, feels like an eternity since the first season aired. Also missed Blake Ritson's wig and the beautiful Harry Richardson and Ward Horton.

The camerawork is outstanding, much better than it has any right to be on this type of show. The bustling opening shot with all the people walking to the Easter service, the dolly shot in the black church, the drone flying over that Newport manse, the camera entering the room with the characters when Larry was showing them around... So, so good. Reminded me just how static period pieces used to look.

The costumes are out of this world and the costuming is so clever – notice how most dresses are period-appropriate, but then there's one or two in the bunch that are super loud and anachronistic. This contrast makes them pop out more, but it also makes you take a second look at the details on the more boring ones.

I have a technical question, though. Could someone please explain to me how they managed to capture the dialogue in the opening scene where Baranski and Nixon are walking to the church? The camera was placed too high to use boom mics, and it looked way too precise for ADR, I rewatched it five times. Were they wearing hidden lapel mics?

by Anonymousreply 30October 30, 2023 10:54 PM

Watching it NOW, BITCHES! Looks more FABULOUS than ever!

by Anonymousreply 31October 31, 2023 1:12 AM

Robert sean Leonard (a BEAST here on the DL back in the day) as a Wiley new New England pastor, delicious!

by Anonymousreply 32October 31, 2023 1:22 AM

Gladys is gonna be a BEARD!

by Anonymousreply 33October 31, 2023 2:13 AM

By the end of this season, I want Mrs. Astor to knock that smirk off of Bertha Russell’s face so bad. I can’t stand that new money bitch. I understand her need to be seen and respected but she gloats like her shit can’t collapse at any moment. Also, let’s not underestimate the old money ladies.

by Anonymousreply 35October 31, 2023 4:35 AM

They’re BOTH rancid cunts!

by Anonymousreply 36October 31, 2023 1:32 PM

The art direction is the best thing about the series. Harry Richardson is, indeed, pretty, but Blake Ritson has the Timothée-Rodent disease. I liked the three Churches cut against each other - the series looks like it cost a fortune.

And speaking of rodents - Cynthia Nixon dissolved most respect for her in the odd narcissistic performance in that SITC zombie show - but here she proves, again, she has acting chops.

by Anonymousreply 37November 2, 2023 3:51 PM

Agree, R37. Nixon helped ruin AJLT and despite all the publicity and chatter, she makes you forget it. I quite like her on GA.

by Anonymousreply 38November 2, 2023 3:57 PM

I don't think it gets a third season. Looks like the numbers are in the 400Ks for viewers. Not massive? It seems expensive to produce for something that is neither big viewership or critically acclaimed. Maybe Netflix will scoop it for lack of The Crown. Or co-produce it with PBS or something. It's a PBS kind of affair. HBO seemed such an odd place for it to land.

by Anonymousreply 39November 2, 2023 3:59 PM

they said the same about downton abbey at first

by Anonymousreply 40November 2, 2023 7:15 PM

They said Downton Abbey should wind up on PBS, oh really?

by Anonymousreply 41November 2, 2023 7:25 PM

The episode was quite boring

by Anonymousreply 42November 2, 2023 7:38 PM

and a delight for one and all

by Anonymousreply 43November 2, 2023 7:41 PM

Of all your personalities I guess.

by Anonymousreply 44November 2, 2023 8:41 PM

Part of the fun is watching all of the NY stage actors working on the show. I'm sure they're thrilled to get the tv $ and the exposure even if some of them are wasted.

by Anonymousreply 45November 3, 2023 1:23 AM

those cast members were wasted and drunk ass bitches
