Gay Three Name Names

Writer Christopher Lucas

It seems as though many gay men like to go by three names, why is that? Neil Patrick Harris, of course, James Duke Mason, Belinda Carlisle’s son, and there are more who aren’t well known. If gays have two names, many seem to have a first name for a last name, such as Adam Keith, or Paul John.

why? because we are f-a-b-u-l-o-u-s

Assassins and other notorious killers often go my three names (e.g., John Wayne Gacy, Lee Harvey Oswald). I think it is to be very specific. Also, sometimes politicians (e.g., MLK, JFK, LBJ, FDR).

As for the Gays, I hadn’t noticed.

I go by a single name.

Actors do it for the gravitas, I think. It makes them sound more important. Serial killers get referred to by their full names to distinguish them from other people with the same first and last name (Henry Lee Lucas for instance.)

by Anonymousreply 4May 22, 2020 7:04 PM

It’s very common. Gays want to be special and different.

I use an initial before my two names. Does that make me a three name gay.

by Anonymousreply 7May 22, 2020 7:46 PM

I have three names for OP:

Mary

Nellie

Prisspot

I think OP was hit over the head with a pole while coming up with his poll.

by Anonymousreply 9May 22, 2020 7:54 PM

Actors with three names often do it because there’s already an actor with the same two names so they add a third (often their middle name) to delineate.

by Anonymousreply 10May 22, 2020 8:15 PM

Hmm...I have three last names. It's a Southern thing.

by Anonymousreply 11May 22, 2020 8:25 PM

OK for those of you that are in complete denial that this exists are living under a rock.

by Anonymousreply 14May 22, 2020 8:30 PM

Didn’t we previously observe that gay men don’t use nicknames? Robert not Bob, Richard not Dick, etc.?

by Anonymousreply 15May 22, 2020 8:31 PM

R15 Your comment reminds me: I always wondered about WALTER Payton. Was he gay? There were little tiny quivers under the radar but nobody wanted to say anything.

Sorry, I know it's not three names but R15's comment triggered me.

What the three names of the guy on "Modern Family?"

by Anonymousreply 28May 22, 2020 10:16 PM

[R15] it’s both, gay men love full names and three or more. Those with three names also like to wear snappy bow ties.

by Anonymousreply 30May 22, 2020 10:58 PM

Jesse Tyler Ferguson, the only gay in the cast, the only one with three names. Proves my point.

by Anonymousreply 32May 22, 2020 11:12 PM

The reason a lot of actors go by three names is because some other actor before them registered their name with the Screen Actors Guild (SAG).

If a Joseph Levitt or Neil Harris got a few parts back in the day and then left acting to sell used cars, SAG won't let another actor use the same name. So they have go bill themselves as Joseph Gordon Levitt or Neil Patrick Harris.

by Anonymousreply 33May 22, 2020 11:55 PM

[R33] I’m a SAG member, and entertainment exec, and that’s completely false. May have been true in 1983, but isn’t now.

Bitch.

by Anonymousreply 36May 23, 2020 1:38 AM

R29, that’s my name, too.

by Anonymousreply 37May 23, 2020 8:34 AM

R33, even in that case they could still use two names with a middle initial. Singer, actress and former Miss America, Vanessa Williams, goes by Vanessa L. Williams at times because there was already another actress named Vanessa Williams.

No reason why some of these pretentious types can't use a middle initial if they need to use the middle name solely to abide by SAG rules. Their equivalents in Britain, especially England, are the pretentious cunts who use double-barrelled surnames because they think it is more posh and aristocratic-sounding.

Three last names is good.

Two first and two last is a good Spanish name.

A first and two last is okay.

Two first and one last is trashy.

Three first names is ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 41May 23, 2020 11:14 AM

Here’s someone with three first names, I wonder what his real name is? Note that he uses the word “haus”, a sign that he’s trying to be a trendy gay.

OP .. This is a site full of old AF gay men. This goes right over their heads.

by Anonymousreply 43May 23, 2020 4:57 PM

I use two names but people seem to prefer to just call me by one name, I get "Hey ASSHOLE" an awful lot.
