How old are you? What kinds of guys do you want to be around, besides "hot"? You will be invisible in the ones "with the hottest guys" (who are rare anyway). Most gay bars in Chicago are just full of cliques who will only talk to their friends or look at their phones.

The thing is... the grammar correction on DL is a long-running gag, essentially. It is not taken that seriously by normal people.

Anyway, now I shall recommend Steamworks. Nobody talks in there. It's pretty low key. Sometimes you'll see hot guys.

R19, it's not like you aren't going to find damaged guys as described in bars. If anything, the apps are where the hot guys are. If you are an 8+ it's easy to hook up and even pretty easy to find some solid datable guys. Gay bars in general tend to skew older and the quality is mediocre. I would join SoHo House in Chicago. There will be a really nice mix of hot guys, many creative gays.

Sidetrack has Showtune Sundays today. so not a good time to go for "laid back."

There aren't really a lot of mellow places to hang out. There was Crew but it closed. I would suggest Sofo Tap in Andersonville as a starter. There's also The Call there. Big Chicks is OK, not too far away though it gets insanely crowded and packed with a lot of really fat dykes.

Most other bars in and around the area, particularly ones not in "Boystown," are for the daddy/bear crowd.

Jackhammer is definitely the sluttiest place. (Touche if it were open)

I prefer The North End OP. I'm a young fifty and have been going there for years. Sports bar, organised sports events/showings, darts, snooker/billiards. Great service, handsome blokes, moderate prices. Very friendly crowd, all types.

Op, unless you are gorgeous you might want to use social media to make a legit friend or associate to go with to these bars. Every bar is clique, Boystown is no exception. I've had plenty of fun going out alone but or the type o atmosphere your seeking you might want to hit up Roscos or Sidetrack. Sidetrack is always a nice first-drink stop, but people stick to their groups so i your alone you might not get anyone under the age of 40 talking to you., if you're lucky.

I started meeting potential dates, that turned into friends, that branched out to new friends that i now go out with. Depending on the time of day you will find professionals. Almost everyone in that area has a job or is in school.

Scot's on Montrose in Ravenswood was a great neighbourhood gay bar. So sad to learn it closed a few months ago! That was going to be another recommendation for you OP. Check out Ravenswood Tap, its new incarnation. More than half of Scot's staff and much of the clientelle still there apparently.

I WOULD R60 - but I am only a 5 and a 6 on a good day. I couldn't *possibly* host an 8. He would sulk in the corner, bitter that he wasted his time and uber fare.

The fuckers here also charge $500 for the party room. It's nice though. There's a catering kitchen and bar. Oh how they sold me on this place. "The AMENITIES" - yeah, the amenities that all cost money and you get kicked out if you sit in too long.
