Garrett Hedlund getting dadbod
Robert Guerrero
I found this post from a guy who went to high school with him. Very interesting post.
I know Garrett, and have known him since sophomore year french class at HHS in Scottsdale. Garrett is a great kid, dated a really sleazy girl by the name of Chealsea N. while in school. They were like a power couple most of junior year at school.
Garrett and Chelsea broke up and she spread a ton of terrible *beep* about him. At one point she tried to tell people that he was in the closet and had a confused sexual identity. You can imagine this stuff got progressively worse during the early months of our senior year, aug-dec. of 2002. The reason was that Garrett was increasingly landing more modeling roles and appearing in more national publications, leading Chelsea (who has a fraternal twin named ashley, and both are freshman at SDSU in San Diego) to become quite hostile toward him.
Garrett graduated at the semester break and moved to LA, where, as is widely reported everywhere, he got the first role he tried for.
It should be noted that Garrett was consistantly nice to everyone he talked to at school. We didn't run in the same social crowds but he always addressed me by name and stopped to talk in the halls, much more than can be said for a lot of other high school kids.
A quick story:
As the first semester of senior year wound down, I went to the movies on a date that was going really badly. It seemed as though my date invited two friends with her, and i definately wasnt down. We were in line to see some horrible film around 10 pm at the desert ridge shopping center theatre in north phoenix. I saw garrett, alone as usual (more on that in a second) in front of me in line. I asked him if he had any ideas to ditch the girls and he said, yeah, come with me to the movie im seeing, which was a small budget film of which i've forgotten the name. I ditched my dates, saw the flick, and afterward he drove me back to my car in his white chevy s10 with a stick shift and roll down windows, a real beater. We had a really cool time just talkin about the ****ty times of the past high school years...
I felt that it was necessary to show you what kind of good person garrett is, because some of this stuff on imdb message boards is an absolute joke. Sure, he was often alone at horizon because kids couldnt identify with him, and were likely intimidated by him. People have always been jealous of him, whether it was the guys because he was better looking than all of the rest of them, so they called him gay, or the girls because he was dating what many girls considered to be the preeminent girl in our school--and they couldnt have him.
Garrett is a down to earth, nice guy, who is truly blessed to be able to have the ability to go out and act and entertain. It is time people stop trying to smear him with gossip. If you have any more garrett questions i can answer, please post them here.
Garrett and I have a joke that when I'm president I'll invite him to be the famous celebrity fundraiser who helps me out on the campaign trail. I'm happy to see one of us is close to reaching our goals. He's a friend, and I'm happy for him. Jason Z. HHS class of 03
