The chubby faced one looked like America Ferrera.

They were pretty popular so why did they just seem to vanish?

by Anonymousreply 5March 22, 2020 9:52 PM

I loved the beach house in the Seasons Change video. I wonder where it's located.

In his autobiography, Clive said they had no star power. Yet all of their Arista albums were mostly successful. Their third album didn't do as well as the first two but did spawn a top ten hit.

The group wasn't as good without Gioa who left before the third album.

Clive was a user. He seemed to drop artists after their third album and then release a greatest hits album. Same thing happened with Taylor Dayne. I think both Expose and Taylor could have had success throughout the '90s since both had success with both ballads and dance songs.

Expose and Taylor Dayne had similar careers. Both had successful debut albums and similarly successful sophomore albums in the late 80s. Then both took 3-4 years to release their third album, which is an eternity in the music business. Expose had an additional nail in their coffin with Goia leaving. Music had changed a lot since they were last on the scene and they were discarded. It's no wonder they were dropped.

Taylor's case was more that she and Clive clashed when it came to her third album. She wanted to write more songs and she got the chance, but the third album Soul Dancing was not as good as her previous two, and definitely not enough hits on it. Arista basically stopped promoting her, particularly when she sang Original Sin from the film The Shadow. There was zero promotion.

I preferred this track.

The group was never the same after Gioia left though.

It seems like first 2-3 years after a new decade is the purge for music acts and many get left in the dust. Dua lip, billie eillish, lizzo, justin Beiber, that lil nas creature are NEXT!

R7 that beach house is bad ass!

by Anonymousreply 15March 23, 2020 3:28 AM

Expose's first album is excellent. A mix of pop, freestyle and ballads.

by Anonymousreply 16March 23, 2020 3:29 AM

Peter Reckell from Days of Our Lives sticks his dick in THAT R13? I don't care if she is a moneymaker.

by Anonymousreply 17March 23, 2020 3:30 AM

R7 - the house is located in Wainscott, in the town of East Hampton on Eastern Long Island. I grew up (as a local, not a city person with money) about two miles away from it

by Anonymousreply 18March 23, 2020 3:41 AM

Oh wow, thanks for the info, R18. I had no idea it was in NY. Do you happen to know a cross street? Were you there when they filmed it?

Taylor Dayne totally hit gold with her version of "Can't Get Enough Of Your Love." She sung the hell out of that song.

Around 1988 pop music changed from Rock to RnB and white artists were not welcomed. Both Sheena Easton and Dayne took a lot of flack for it. (Hall & Oates did earlier in the 80s for having RnB hits).

It was also the time when Billboard changed its methodology of charts. And artists had long careers. Three albums was about it for a typical pop artists. Look at Cindy Lauper or Culture Club.

A few like Diana Ross, Paul McCartney or Olivia Newton-John were able to pull of ten or more years of hits (20 years for Ross and McCartney if you count their hits with their groups) but that was rare.

I love Expose and Taylor Dayne! Great 80's memories.

by Anonymousreply 21March 23, 2020 4:40 AM

Another reason Taylor Dayne didn't have a lasting career is because her voice was like nails on a chalkboard.

by Anonymousreply 22March 25, 2020 2:51 AM

Didn't the chubby girl sing lead on most Expose songs and the other two were basically extras?

by Anonymousreply 23March 27, 2020 3:47 AM

They were no Sweet Sensation

by Anonymousreply 24March 27, 2020 4:02 AM

Shit music, but very nostalgic.

by Anonymousreply 26March 27, 2020 6:28 AM

R23 While Jeanette (the "chubby one") sang lead on most of their singles, Gioia sang on "Let me be the one", "What you don't know" and "Tell me why". Ann was ignored except for "Stop, Listen, Look and Think" and that one was given a minimal release compared to their other singles. She was ok as a singer, but her voice didn't stand out like Jeanette and Gioia's did.
