Was he some sort of inside joke with gays in Hollywood? How could anyone not notice how flames-from-space gay he was? (I mean he was fucking PINK lol!)

Did you root for him because you felt a certain kinship or was he just a lame cartoon character?

So many Hanna-Barbera cartoon characters were rip-offs (The Flintstones = The Honeymooners). Snagglepuss's vocal characterization was a blatant imitation of Bert Lahr's Cowardly Lion, a character that was also very, very gay.

Wikipedia even mentioned that

As part of the settlement the disclaimer "Snagglepuss voice by Daws Butler" was required to appear on each commercial. This made Butler one of the few voice artists to receive screen credits in a TV commercial.

True, R8. "Top Cat" even used actors from "Sgt. Bilko" to voice some of its characters, including Maurice Gosfield (Doberman on the Bilko show) as Benny the Ball, and Marvin Kaplan.

Ok. I am re-watching the first 15 seconds of this and cracking up.

Snagglepuss: "Mr. Flintstone"

Fred Flintsone: "Uh just call me 'Fred'".

Snagglepuss: "I will. Mr. Fred Flintstone" ... and the way he says "I will" is basically all of DataLounge distilled into 2 syllables.

R2/R9 I preferred the TOP CAT cats to Snags. They were just cooler to me, somehow. Maybe it’s because I’m a lesbian.

Fancy-Fancy is my eternal favourite. Probably because he got all the Goils!
