Dr. Squatch All-Natural Soap Commercial

Writer Christopher Lucas

I usually HATE these kind of pop-up adds that shill useless products, BUT . . .

I am a sucker for a high-quality bar of soap, plus I want to floss my teeth with the spokesman’s chest hair. Do straight guys actually buy this stuff (?), because this add seems 100% targeted toward queers.

I like the dark haired guy. Glad to see him “showering,” he’s got a great body

by Anonymousreply 1November 30, 2020 1:27 AM

I like the adverts, they are cute, and some of the fragrances sound nice. There was another NYC soap company by bros who marketed their soap as "Fresh Balls"... I thought that was a little pandering to gays as well, but it was nice soap. I no longer live in NYC, but wonder if that soap is still around. Only one of them was cute though.

I like the dark haired guy, too. Just wish he didn’t shave his chest ☹️

by Anonymousreply 3November 30, 2020 2:22 AM

I love it when they advertise these products with the meaningless, useless word "natural."

Arsenic is natural.

Radioactive uranium is natural.

Sperm count and a chick all over the guy doesn't mean it's targeted towards gay men or queer/trans types.

I make my own soap, and usually scent it with bergamot and neroli essential oils. It's vegan, organic, and quite delightful.

R5 - You’re right. Could be aimed at guys with “masculine self-image” issues or their girlfriends.

by Anonymousreply 7November 30, 2020 12:58 PM

I agree, R4. Aveda still touts it’s haircolor as “97% Naturally Derived”. The issue is that ammonia is a naturally occurring element- found at the bottom of volcanos and urine.

by Anonymousreply 8November 30, 2020 1:08 PM

The dark-haired guy reminds me of pron star Tegan Zayne.

by Anonymousreply 9November 30, 2020 1:15 PM

The early ads were HEAVILY targeted to gay men. The long haired guy - was always leering at the hot dark haired guy (Mike). He washed his hair in one ad, took a pointer and aimed it at his dick. They've been in a hot tub together, etc. I'm sure they got some negative feedback.

by Anonymousreply 10November 30, 2020 1:16 PM

R8...so true about Aveda! As a colorist I've seen the Aveda hype for years, but people scoop the verbiage right up. It's among the worst professional haircolor available & has earned the nickname "A-fade-a" in the industry.

by Anonymousreply 11November 30, 2020 1:24 PM

Do any of you know any straight men under 30???

by Anonymousreply 12November 30, 2020 1:29 PM

Also, as far as Dr. Squach, yes their bars are well-fragranced, but they melt rather quickly. And the price makes that a big fail. We much prefer Duke Cannon soaps. They're just as pleasantly fragranced & last long enough to justify their $10 price tags.

This shampoo ad makes reference to tossing salad.

I'm a Dr. Bronner man. All the way.

Those commercials seem directed, enough, at straight hipster males. It's a limited market, but the product is a specialty item.

They sit knee rubbing knee

by Anonymousreply 17November 30, 2020 1:52 PM

I've bought from this outfit. Many scents, good prices.

I air dry my bar soap on a plastic stand between showers and they last longer.

Dr. Bronners afficianado here as well! Great, simple products with fresh, pleasant scents (almond, citrus, eucalyptus); however, NO HAIRY CHESTS. ☹️

Something seems a bit off with their Youtube videos. This one says it's been viewed over 114MM times, yet they only have 50k subscribers.

I've seen OP's commercial. It turned me off, don't know why.

by Anonymousreply 21November 30, 2020 2:53 PM

R20, there's at least 21 people in this thread who've viewed these videos; probably a lot more who aren't commenting. How many of us subscribe to their YouTube channel?

by Anonymousreply 22November 30, 2020 3:18 PM

I HATE these commercials. I see them on Youtube videos and I cannot wait to click Skip Ads.

Creepy people in them. Yuck.

by Anonymousreply 23November 30, 2020 3:49 PM

Brought to you by the same creative team who launched Dollar Shave Club .. no doubt.

Oh, dear.

Bar soap is nasty and leaves residue all over the place, this is the 21st century we have body wash now that is mild and doesn't leave shit all over the shower, nothing but a bunch of old queens with way too much time on their hands with their vegan organic, blessed by the Pope, make your own soap.

by Anonymousreply 26November 30, 2020 4:34 PM

I judge body wash users negatively.

by Anonymousreply 27November 30, 2020 5:01 PM

My son dated a girl whose parents made homemade soaps, candles and insect repellent.

First - the soaps & candles smelled just like the insect repellant

Second - the insect repellent stunk. It stunk because it was made with stank herbs from stank plants that smelled so bad even insects wouldn’t go near them.

by Anonymousreply 28November 30, 2020 5:27 PM

I judge people who misuse the word “stank” negatively.

by Anonymousreply 29November 30, 2020 6:03 PM

I hate body wash. I tried to get used to it, but it's just too messy and hard to deal with. I just use a plain old bar of soap (these days usually Dove for Men Minerals and Sage). No washcloth.
