Django Unchained - how bad was Jamie Foxx?

Writer Ava Lawson

Jamie Fox’s chronic underplaying did Django Unchained a disservice. It is one of the dullest leading man performances I have had the misfortune of watching and is why the film isn’t quite forgotten, but certainly rarely spoken of today.

Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson and Leonardo DiCaprio did yeoman’s work keeping things buzzing and walked away with every scene they shared with him..

This film is terrible. He goes on a killing spree killing all of Leo's servants, maids, butlers, chauffeurs, cooks, gardeners, etc. His beef is with Leo, why kill all these innocent people?

Agree! Leo was also nothing to be celebrated and I thought oh Sam Jackson, what are you doing? Kerry Washington played little more than a beautiful sex objects. Why not give her more lines?

This movie was very underwhelming. I think Django's outfit and name alone got more attention than he ever did. Had it been directed by Clint Eastwood it probably would have been great like Unforgiven.

Instead it was a stupid movie. Nearly ruined Foxx's career didn't it? Why was Django a legend? What just because he was unchained? He had no fucking backstory that made you see why he was a badass. He just some dude. Terrible writing by Quentin, terrible!

Once upon a time in Hollywood Quentin made a few good movies. That decade was the 90s and they are done.

Jamie was great...the whole movie was great. The op is probably a gay hater.

So many people are so jealous of Tarantino and his great talent, they are only happy when they are criticizing his wonderful films. People are weird that way.

Leo was great, greasy and slick and vulgar and not quite a villain. And with a full face of makeup, too, his cheekbones were popping.

Samuel L. Jackson was great, a standard crotchety old snake until the library scene and its revealed he is Candy's father figure.

Christoph Waltz should have been nominated for Best Actor, DiCaprio and Jackson for Supporting.

Jamie Foxx is a sinkhole of charisma r4. His one facial expression is constipated. I wish Will Smith or Chiwetel Ejiofor played the role.

I liked part from the fact I don't think QT quite knew what he was doing with his trademark comic gore. Inglourious Basterds covered the same territory with a sharper script.

The Little Lord Fauntleroy suit was great through. I assume it was QT's comment on ghetto-fabulous bling culture, as was the other stuff on black-on-black violence.

I didn't see DUc for the longest time because I find his face vulgar. But I was pleasantly surprised how good he was. I liked the film a lot. Of course Leo can do no wrong for me.
