She was a mess before his death. I don't think her being a mess after proves anything.

I saw "Soaked in Bleach," featuring the investigator hired by Courtney Love (I think). The investigator ended up suspecting CL of foul play, IIRC. But nothing conclusive.

The jury is still out, for me. I do think he was suicidal, a drug addict, and it was possible he did kill himself. Courtney may have been like that girl with the weird eyebrows who egged on her boyfriend.

Starting with the "Staircase" murders (Peterson), I'm really starting to distrust these documentaries. I understand bringing a different point of view to an "old" story, but I don't like it when they leave out or don't even briefly address the corroborated theories of the case that have been somewhat established. Acknowledge it and disprove it, if that's your point of view.

He didn't have good coping mechanisms. Frail, weak, dependent, thin-skinned... He needed a lot of enablers.

Not sure why he couldn't let go of the past. Seemed to be devastated by his parents' divorce (Wtf cares? 'bye! Which one of you bitches do I have to love with?).

I don't even think therapy would have helped, because that would be an outsider authority figure.

Of course, the match made in hell was the equally damaged Courtney- the Grunge version of Sid & Nancy.

The amount of heroin found in his system would have obviated him being able to open his eyes, let alone possess the motor skills required to pick up a shotgun and the rest. He was murdered. But I don't know by whom.

I used to bike down to Seward Park. I never knew where his house was until the Saturday after his body was discovered. There is a park adjacent to the house. The small house where he snuffed it literally looks onto the park. The Saturday after his death was announced the hill was chockablock with grunge babies.

Kurt Cobain wasn't really a gentle soul. He did have some good musical influences but his brand of nihilism is for the young or dead. He WAS whiny and petulant and very troubled. And that's ok. He had other gifts. Someone called him a loser and I think that's kind of the Truth. He might have survived - but he was never going to get better. He was convinced he took heroin to treat his stomach problems....

I don't think you can necessarily judge by the amount of heroin in Cobain's system. Long-time addicts can build up enormous tolerances. It's why the risk of OD becomes so great: The amount needed to get high and the amount that will kill you becomes a very thin line.

I believe he did kill himself. That P.I, Tom Grant just seemed to be overzealous in his dislike for Courtney. I'm not saying that Kurt wasn't surrounded by shady people. He had a few friends who seemed shady as hell. He tried to kill himself in Rome, just a few weeks before he died. So the intent was there and as others have pointed out, he could have had a very high tolerance to narcotics. I have always liked grunge and I REALLY liked Nirvana. Its very sad that he felt like there was no hope of him being happy.

I was a huge Nirvana fan. Had a poster of Kurt Cobain on my wall growing up. I think he did kill himself and have never really questioned it, despite the clumsily made conspiracy style documentaries and books (I never forget in that Kurt and Courtney film when they conveniently run out of videotape right before they're about to reveal something big...).

He was a drug addict in chronic pain, he had overdosed in Rome 3 weeks earlier (and Courtney was the one who called the ambulance), and his last released song before his death was called "I Hate Myself And Want To Die" (the B-side to Pennyroyal Tea). Half of his contemporaries did the same thing. It's not rocket science.

R55 "I Hate Myself And Want To Die" was done tongue in cheek. There was always bit of humor and sarcasm in Nirvana's music, they didn't take themselves too seriously. Unlike few of those other big grunge bands who had zero humor about themselves and came across as really lame.
