Is it possible to search all the past Datalounge threads? Even the ones from the very beginning? What happens to old posts? How long do they remain?

At one point several years ago, the DL promised a complete archive of all posts on DL. It never materialized.

Click the search button, then click the "Search archive" button, and then type in your search criteria.

It's not really that difficult.

R6, I don't think you've actually tried it. The normal search is kind of useless, but the "search archive" is quite functional.

I have created my own Alternative DataLounge with a history that goes back to 1927.

Tremendously insightful, witty, funny and thrilling threads. Great rivalries extending over decades. Tragic losses (Luise Rainer commenting on every death from Harlow to Monroe and beyond). Shared horror and celebration at historical events ("The Sky Was So Blue That Morning in Pearl Harbor," "Auschwitz Chic," "MLK or Malcolm X - Which Is HOTTER????" "Haldeman and Ehrlichman Tag Team John Dean,"). And of course the entire developmental course of the gay rights movement (I Was at the Stonewall Riot Last Night and It Was Nothing But Black Trannies").

One can trace very strange coincidences, too. I have discovered in my research that 237 people posted in the "Something Terrible Happened in the Aether Today" thread on the day Madonna was born.

Have to go now. I'm catching up with the thread about how William Frawley's low hangers are distracting in those baggy trousers on that new show with Lucille Ball.

R12 R17 The first 11 replies to this thread are from 2015, when DL's format and layout were completely different. The search function here is now practically worthless, especially if you're looking for older threads. Use the Google method R16 described, but even then the threads will only go back to 2008. The vintage DL threads (the first 10 years or so) are essentially gone with the wind.

Wow they might as well just turn off the search box all together, I can’t even find threads I myself started. If not for Googling key words and “datalounge” I wouldn’t be able to locate anything. Is there anyone working on this? If I paid I’d be pissed.
