CREED Cologne For Men
Andrew Hansen
I've read on previously and heard from people that Creed is one of the best scents out there for men. When I looked around though I found that there's more than one Creed cologne: Creed Irish Tweed, Creed Avictus etc.
Anyone have an opinion as to which in their line is the best ?

aventus is supposed to be the most popular.
are all these scents long lasting?
I bought a bottle of aqua di pama and it was not long lasting at all, it's the blue bottle. I think those in the white bottle are longer lasting.

I have a bottle of Aqua di Parma and it has lasted fine; I've had it about a year. I like to alternate between scents.

OP, Creed is a line of colognes rather than an individual scent. There are some very fine imitations of Creed scents you can buy on ebay, and so you can buy a few samplers and try to see what you really like among them before you commit. I am glad I did because I have genuine favorites and non-favorites among them. My favorite by far is Aventus, which opens with a smell like pineapple: I have never come across another scent that opens quite like it. The other one I really like is Silver Mountain Water, which smells like blackcurrant.
I have used the imitation Aventus for a few years and always get lots of compliments on it. A boyfriend once surprised me for my birthday once by buying me actual Aventus e.d.c. since he loved the imitation on me so much. I use the real stuff only very rarely: I don't think most people can tell the difference (although I can by this point), so I still usually use the Aventus imitation when I go out.

May I ask what is aventus imitaion? is it another brand?
| by Anonymous | reply 4 | June 3, 2018 2:08 AM |
It's fake (not imitation) Aventus sold on Ebay. But sellers don't tell you that.

r4, I get "Our Impression of [NAME OF BRAND]" imitations from Quality Fragrance Oils on ebay.
Here is a set of five samplers of Creed colognes for $29.95 (plus p&H). That's $6 each. I was pretty happy with them, and bought a larger bottle of the Aventus.

Aventus lasts forever, r1. I usually spray it in the air and run through quickly (Mary!) because it's too heavy otherwise. Viking, the new one, is similarly powerful.
My favorite is Silver Mountain Water. It's fresh, clean and very light, and you don't smell it on yourself all day. Least favorite is Virgin Island Water, which smells like some kind of Bath and Body Works coconut-and-lime monstrosity that a teenage girl would wear.

yes, I think Aventus very good.
Aqua di Parma is also great. I have colonia essenza in the dark bottle, very long lasting and no need to spray too much.
I have another in the light blue bottle, it doesn't last very long but it was so fresh and great for the summer.

Creed is a fragrance 'house' with a pretty large range of scents going back many years. They're expensive and well-made (or, they were when I still collected fragrances). I own or used to own Neroli Sauvage, Baie de Genievre, Acier Aluminium, Bois du Portugal, Angelique Encens and Tabarome (both the Vintage and the Millesime versions). I almost never paid full price for any of them: I used to belong to fragrance chat boards, which puts you in the loop for acquiring expensive scents.
Bois du Portugal is my favorite, and I will go out of my way to replace it if I ever use it up. Baie de Genievre is a close second. I've found all of them long-lasting and distinctive. Green Irish Tweed is one I like, but I've never tried to acquire it since it's too strong and recognizable for my tastes. Of other Creed scents (that I don't own), I used to like Silver Mountain Water, until I started to associate it with my financial advisor. The only one I disliked is Himalaya.
Men seem to buy some Creed scents as status symbols, but I never got caught up in that aspect of fragrance collecting.

DO NOT BUY COUNTERFEIT AVENTUS. If you see a bottle online and the price is too good to be true, it is. Fakes contain god knows what chemicals.
Go on scentbird and buy a 7.5 ml spray of real Aventus for under $30 if you subscribe and then cancel after it ships.
The top brand for an Aventus Clone is DUA. It's close, maybe a little more powerful. It's called Poseidon's Elixir. They have different versions because Aventus batches are known to vary widely. Just make sure you're not buying one of their mashups. (They've released a whole line of Aventus mixed with another popular cologne)...

R10 these days, AVENTUS is considered to be ‘basic’ in the world of mens’ fragrance collecting; it’s commonly the first high-end designer frag a guy starts with, and it’s thought to signify that the wearer is a fairly generic and uninteresting person (YMMV) who doesn’t really care or doesn’t know anything (yet) about creating his own unique style fashion or fragrance.
Other such scents include Creed GREEN IRISH TWEED, Dior SAUVAGE (hehehe that laughable Johnny Depp ad), Paco Rabanne INVICTUS/ONE MILLION, Tom Ford TOBACCO VANILLE (King of the Pretentious Basics Harry Styles wears this lmao), Parfums de Marly LAYTON, Versace EROS, Viktor & Rolf SPICEBOMB EXTREME, Armaf CLUB DE NUIT, Dolce&Gabbana THE ONE, Yves Saint Laurent Y/LA NUIT DE L’HOMME, Gaultier ULTRA MALE, Davidoff COOL WATER (my creepy reptilian Boomer uncle wears this), Maison Margiela BY THE FIREPLACE, Hermes TERRE D’HERMES, and Chanel BLEU DE CHANEL/ALLURE HOMME SPORT (just a personal thing, but I despise smelling the latter on anyone, man or woman).

For me, Creeds are associated with the Hets.
My straight sister and her fiancé wear Creeds—her Millesime, and him Viking. They also tend to wear matching sweaters and shirts much of the time. It’s kind of sweet, I guess, but also very twee and sheeplike. You wouldn’t catch me dead wearing the same thing as my partner.

OP-
Aventus is my absolute favorite. And even though though is popular it is still pretty special- I don't know of any cologne that smells quite like it. I especially like the pineapple element.
Silver Mountain Water is my other favorite.
I also have Millesime Imperial- pretty basic citrus scent.
Virgin Island Water- reminds me of rum and the Bahamas- Its a very good summer scent.
I have never smelled Creed Vetiver but it gets great reviews.
THE WORST CREED SCENT I HAVE EVER SMELLED- Royal Mayfair, hands down. A very odd mix of fragrances, and I found it extremely off putting.

Ha R15-
I did purchase Margiela's By The Fireplace and DESPISE IT.
I expected more of a fireplace scent- kind of like Diptyque's Feu De Bois (sp?) but it is straight up MARSHMALLOW AND MAPLE SYRUP. It is sickly sweet and disgusting.

Creed is a fragrance house, and their fragrances are extremely expensive. Their fragrances also tend to vary a bit from lot to lot as they, for the most part, don't use synthetics.
I have used decants of various of their fragrances including, Green Irish Tweed, Aventus, and Silver Mountain Water. I like all of them, but I can't afford them.
I bought knockoffs from Alt.fragrances, and they are very close, and I like them. Alt is very clear that you are not buying the real thing, and they don't try to act like you are. They give them different names
Mohair= Green Irish Tweed Executive=Aventus Platinum Water=Silver Mountain Water
BTW, both Cool Water and Aspen smell very similar to Green Irish Tweed. Aspen is an Eau de Cologne, so has less longevity, but a huge bottle can be had for less than $20

If you wanna smell like an olde English banker, Creed is your scent.
| by Anonymous | reply 20 | March 14, 2021 4:15 PM |
Creed is ridiculously expensive.
| by Anonymous | reply 21 | March 14, 2021 4:15 PM |
Amazing scents. I have quite a few of them. But they get very expensive to wear every day so definitely a special occasion type of thing. A little goes a long way and I’ve had certain ones last for years with no change in potency or smell like other high end fragrances.

R23 potayto, potahto, judgmental, discerning...
| by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 14, 2021 5:17 PM |
R15 is like a lot of people you come across on fragrance sites. Is it a fragrance you've heard of? It's crap. Was it popular at one point? It's crap. If you like it, you are basic.
They call perfumes juice.
The bottle is a flaçon.
They will prattle on endlessly about sillage and projection until you just murder them to shut their pretentious mouths.
I just asked if the vetiver note is extremely prominent, or is it more of a background accent. I wasn't asking for a dissertation on why anyone who would wear the fragrance is a basic bitch who should just buy Axe body spray
People like R15 suck, and should be forced to spend the rest of their lives wearing Debbie Gibson's Electric Youth.

Hey don't bring Debbie into this, R25.
| by Anonymous | reply 26 | March 14, 2021 6:06 PM |
I wear Creed Aventus and people go out of their way to give me compliments. It's worth the $400.
| by Anonymous | reply 27 | March 14, 2021 6:12 PM |
I used to splurge on high end eaux de parfum for men. There must be seven or eight from Creed. Frankly, none of them ever smelled great on me. Body chemistry I suppose. So try samplers sized first. Then invest in large bottles.
FWIW, I really like Tom Ford Noir for evenings and (basic) Boucheron Jaipur for daytime or when I’m likely to sweat.

Creed Aventus is fucking glorious, R27. I'm going to get myself a bottle for Christmas.
