Christmas Must Watches?

Writer Robert Spencer

What are your Christmas must watches? Apparently A Charlie Brown Christmas aired last night and I unfortunately missed it. I want to watch some Christmas classics this year and I'm coming to DL for inspiration! I'll find a way to watch Charlie Brown, but I'm also thinking of watching one of those stop motion ones... the Mr. White Christmas/Heat Miser one might work. I also want to watch I'll Be Home for Christmas with an adorably twinky Jonathan Taylor Thomas. What do you guys traditionally watch every holiday season?

It's on Disney+. You also get a nearly naked Adam Lavorgna which was surprising for this kind of movie.

The Home Alone movies are the ones I revisit most often. If you're in the mood for some Christmas cynicism check out something like The Ref, Bad Santa, or even Nightmare Before Christmas. If you're in the mood for something more heartwarming, you can't go wrong with the Home Alone movies. There are enough Christmas classics out there that you shouldn't have to bother with any of the Lifetime/Hallmark crap.

Ages ago (25 years, maybe) PBS showed Alan Ayckbourn's "Season's Greetings." I recorded it then and have watched it most Christmases since. At this point, I guess it's a bit like comfort food.

It's on YouTube, if anyone wants to have a look.

A Christmas Carol — the 1951 version with Alastair Sim. It’s on YouTube. In the 1960s in NY, WOR’s Million Dollar Movie would show that version twice a day every day in the week leading up to Christmas. I watched that movie a lot.

I also like The Muppet Christmas Carol.

And, yes, A Charlie Brown Christmas and Rudolph.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

A Charlie Brown Christmas

Pee-Wee's Christmas special(s)

A Christmas Carol (the version with George C. Scott)

The Homecoming (TV movie with Patricia Neal; this was forerunner to "The Waltons"

I don't watch them when broadcasted -- too many commercials! A Christmas Carol with:

Alistair Sim

Mr. Magoo

George C Scott

A Charlie Brown Christmas, Rudolph, It's a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street (Natalie version) It Happened on 5th Avenue, Meet John Doe

I didn't even think about the commercials!

I found The Year Without a Santa Claus streaming online so I'll watch it this way! I bet a lot of Christmas classics are online. I can't wait to indulge!!!

Thanks for the recommendations everyone! Keep them coming if you wish! I also DEFINITELY want to watch Krampus! I missed it when it came out, and I loved the director's previous film Trick 'r Treat!

Polar Express could have been one for the ages had they just waited a couple more years to make it. Still worth watching.
