Celebrity Christian Scientists

Writer Robert Guerrero

I never knew this (from Wikipedia)…..

There used to be a concentration of Scientists in the film industry, including Joan Crawford, Carol Channing, Doris Day, Colleen Dewhurst, Cecil B. DeMille, Horton Foote, George Hamilton, Mary Pickford, Ginger Rogers, Mickey Rooney, Jean Stapleton and King Vidor.[389] Robert Duvall and Val Kilmer are Christian Scientists.[390] Those raised by Christian Scientists include jurist Helmuth James Graf von Moltke, military analyst Daniel Ellsberg,[391] Ellen DeGeneres, Henry Fonda, Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, and Robin Williams.[392] Actor Anne Archer was raised within Christian Science; she left the church when her son, Tommy Davis, was a child, and both became prominent in the Church of Scientology

Funny how most of these stars who eschewed Western medicine lived very long lives, for the most part.

Joan Crawford didn't become a Christian Scientist until 1970. According to MD, Christina said Joan didn't want prayer at the end: "Damnit! Don't you dare ask God to help me! " (but I take this with a HUGE grain of salt).

TBH it seems like a very kooky religion (as do most).

What’s a Christian Scientist and how do they differ from a regular Christian?

I don't know about that, they also did a lot of drastic things to their bodes and face via western medicine that most people would consider unnecessary. Plus they all lived very privileged lives once they became famous. Look at the Queen of England, she's very westernized in her medical care. It has more to do with having the best of everything, best quality food, places to live, no fight or flight about surviving to the next day. Low stress by comparison to people in the real world.

For one, R5 they don't seek medical intervention, as they believe everything that should be cured, can be cured by prayer alone (see Colleen Dewhurst, & Joan Crawford). That alone is insanity. It will always stand out to me. They're not completely non-existent presently, but the numbers are very low.

I think it was very popular mid-20th c. It's sorta culty New Age (before real New Age). But all indications is its membership is rapidly declining.

Culty, New Agey, it would appeal to Hollywood types just like such things do today.
