Call Me Kat Season 2
William Jenkins
It was a big surprise that it got renewed, I was assuming that they would do a hard reboot and get rid of a chunk of the cast and the worst of the tropes. But no, it literally picks up exactly where it left off and all the more commitment to its more outrageous aspects. Well, there’s always hate watching. By the way baked goods and cat hair make me a bit nauseous.

I really liked the UK version. So I don't know who they are trying to please here.
Hollywood also tried to make a US version of Kath & Kim, which was also a butcher job.

Joey's wig looks terrible, but he still looks a million times better than Michael Stoyanov, who used to be kind of cute in a nebbishy way but has now morphed into Joe Walsh.

Mayim’s overacting makes it impossible for me to watch, which is sad since I thought she was so good in BBT
| by Anonymous | reply 3 | January 11, 2022 3:37 AM |
"But no, it literally picks up"
We don't use "literally" in this manner, dear.

I saw a promo for Season 2 while channel surfing and went "WTF??" It looked like a second tier sitcom straight from 1995. I was genuinely embarrassed for everyone involved. Leslie Jordan can't be that desperate for money, can he?

A girl’s gotta eat.

I saw a minute long preview of an upcoming episode on YouTube and I did not laugh once. Previews usually highlight some of the best parts of an episode so if the preview is bad, I can’t imagine how bad the show is.

R5 I think he is. I also think he's one of those that just says yes to anything.
| by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 11, 2022 4:03 AM |
This got renewed because every network needs their diversity ugly girl.
| by Anonymous | reply 9 | January 11, 2022 4:09 AM |
Didn't like her in this. She's overdoing everything and trying way too hard. The writing isn't good and feels dated and too sitcom-y. She's better on Jeopardy.
| by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 11, 2022 4:15 AM |
In the pic Joey is holding up his hand. Does the length of his index and ring finger indicate he’s gay or no?
| by Anonymous | reply 11 | January 11, 2022 4:22 AM |
The worst, most cloying, most desperate, unfunny mess on television. Can't believe it got a 2nd season.

Is that Lens Dunham on the left with a 'stache?
| by Anonymous | reply 13 | January 11, 2022 4:41 AM |
I didn’t know Jim Parsons is an executive producer on the show.
| by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 11, 2022 4:51 AM |
Swoosie Kurtz looks frightening.
| by Anonymous | reply 15 | January 11, 2022 4:56 AM |
Joey Lawrence is still hot
| by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 11, 2022 4:58 AM |
I like the cast but it's like watching your friends in a really bad play.
I agree that Mayim is just more natural on Jeopardy. You can see her trying so hard on this show and knowing that it sucks.
| by Anonymous | reply 17 | January 11, 2022 4:59 AM |
The show will end this season so she can be the permanent Jeopardy host.
| by Anonymous | reply 18 | January 11, 2022 5:08 AM |
And right after this Fox debuted Pivoting another desperate attempt at a sitcom. I found all the characters to be annoying and not funny. Bring back The Simpsons!
| by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 11, 2022 5:47 AM |
We spoke about this on the S1 thread and the consensus was the only reason it got picked up for S2 was because of the pandemic, and it being cheaper for Fox to renew a sitcom (with existing, very cheap-looking sets) than filming any new pilots. And then Mayim nearly lost the 'Jeopardy!' gig because she was locked into S2 as the star and exec producer.
My prediction is it lasts half a season; well, it just started and will end in April or May. after 13 or so more eps. It seems with the 'Blossom' reunion schtick that Mayim doesn't care, nor do the writers. Leslie Jordan has probably gotten better offers, and Swoozie doesn't need to pay for any more plastic surgery. Cheyenne, the other cast, and the cats will be out of a job soon.

Do you really need to look at his hand when his eyebrows are right there?

R20 My god, those cats will be walking the streets and getting into trouble soon enough, let’s hope they all got fixed when they came to the cafe.
| by Anonymous | reply 22 | January 11, 2022 6:56 AM |
She’s also not very good on Jeopardy:
Contestant: “What is the Armenian genocide?”
Mayim: [giggles] “Correct! You control the board!”
| by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 11, 2022 7:32 AM |
The should've changed the premise from a cat cafe to a hotel, where faded/failed former co-stars of the series' regulars appear each week. A 2022 Love Boat, if you will. I'm sure Julianne Phillips and Flex Anderson would love a check.
| by Anonymous | reply 25 | January 11, 2022 11:41 AM |
She has got to stop mugging to the camera, it’s like she doesn’t trust the joke to land if she doesn’t engage with the audience, and surprise, it isn’t. Did she do this over large mugging on Big Bang Theory?
| by Anonymous | reply 26 | January 16, 2022 8:04 AM |
R2 Seriously. He looks like he just wandered into the photo. He makes Joey look like a GOD.
| by Anonymous | reply 27 | January 16, 2022 9:11 AM |
Why do I subject myself to watching this show every week? Seeing Swoosie Kurtz, who was so magnificent on Broadway, reduced to weird cameos about aging women makes me profoundly sad. This woman WAS Bananas and died heartbreakingly on stage every night, at very least she should be living the life of Stockard Channing, not being on a show where at the end they wave like they are on the god damn Beverly Hillbillies.
| by Anonymous | reply 28 | January 22, 2022 12:24 PM |
If there were any justice in the world she would have had another 6 or 7 seasons of Pushing Daisies on her resume.
| by Anonymous | reply 29 | January 23, 2022 8:36 AM |
I came across some previews. There are two cast members who simply cannot act their way out of a paper bag. They are so flat but they are not white so If I name them the woke crowd will scream racism
| by Anonymous | reply 30 | January 23, 2022 8:58 AM |
R30 Are we say the two gay ones are just fine and get a pass? I’ve seen both of them on Broadway and at least there they were able to maintain a character.
| by Anonymous | reply 31 | January 23, 2022 10:10 AM |
They are find R31 and they are maintaining a character, however ludicrous the character may be.
| by Anonymous | reply 32 | January 23, 2022 10:23 AM |
R26 and R28. The looking to the audience directly and the cast waving at the end are copied directly from the Britcom “Miranda” which is what this show is based on.
I really liked “Miranda” but I couldn’t get through even the first episode of this; it’s terrible. Too bad because I like the cast.
| by Anonymous | reply 33 | January 23, 2022 11:42 AM |
What’s the whole purpose of the cat cafe if it’s not even going to have any cat related story lines?
| by Anonymous | reply 34 | February 4, 2022 12:38 PM |
Does it air every Caturday?
| by Anonymous | reply 35 | March 18, 2022 6:29 PM |
I watched a couple episodes of season 1 and I didn't like it. There was no reason to make it a cat cafe. That was a stupid premise. The original was set in a joke and novelty shop, that was perfect. I have a cat, and while my cat should have a sitcom, the cats add nothing to this show. Poor Swoozie is starting to look like a burn victim and it looks like Chayanne might be standing too close to the same flame.
But, I'll watch the season premiere just because I loved Blossom.
| by Anonymous | reply 36 | March 18, 2022 6:41 PM |
It's a horror show. Pandering, cutesy, insufferable. The current plotline has multiple attractive men fighting over the frauiest of fraus to canned laughter. At the end of each episode the actors wave at the camera and dance. The entertainment equivalence of dangling car keys in front of an infant. Kill me now.
| by Anonymous | reply 38 | March 18, 2022 6:47 PM |
I didn't even know cats drank coffee.
You learn something new everyday.
| by Anonymous | reply 39 | March 18, 2022 7:09 PM |
Mugging to the audience is exactly how Miranda was written. Phoebe Waller-Bridge based a career on it.
| by Anonymous | reply 40 | March 18, 2022 7:13 PM |
Has the educated and naturally curious Mayim Bialik ever publicly come to terms with the fact that her entire career as an actor involves these shitty, formulaic sitcom characters? She's smart enough to know better, and experienced enough to have paid her sitcom dues, and rich enough to say no to bullshit like this. Sure, she has Jeopardy some of the time now, but that doesn't give her much room to flex her own personality or interests. She's either reading scripts for Blossom/BBT/Kat, or she's reading cue cards for Jeopardy.
Her podcast on neurology and mental health is interesting and productive, and she's a patient listener. That should be her career focus, and she can leave this popcorn nonsense to tarts like Kaley Cuoco and Casey Wilson.

Cheyenne looks really hot in this. His body and face seem to have settled into a lean muscley form without being too rounded out or too skinny.
Even his chest hair is nice light covering without being shaved and waxed.
And I thought he got a lot of tattoos when he had a breakdown but they either cover them up or he got them removed cuz he looks nice and clean when he takes his shirt off
| by Anonymous | reply 42 | March 18, 2022 7:39 PM |
Is there a live audience?
Is a standing ovation in order?
| by Anonymous | reply 43 | March 18, 2022 7:44 PM |
All of Season 1 had no audience as it was deep covid time. Season 2, who knows. But why change the canned laughter if you don't have to.
| by Anonymous | reply 44 | March 18, 2022 7:47 PM |
The only good thing about this bilge is that it keeps Byalik from participating full time on Jeopardy.
Really can’t stand that woman.
| by Anonymous | reply 45 | March 18, 2022 8:08 PM |
The weird thing is that MB does have some talent, and so do several other castmates. But you'd never know it from this show.

Total silly 80's fantasy sitcom where the old chubby girl has 3 hunks into her.
But I like it...comfort food.

At least the newest guy appears to be a sociopath, so I doubt she'll trade in the current boyfriend for him.

I wanted to like it, and gave it a chance, but it’s not really funny. Cheyenne does look super hot in it though.

Is the guy who plays Kat’s boyfriend gay? I scoured the Internet, but I could not find anything specific
| by Anonymous | reply 52 | March 20, 2022 8:58 PM |
Yes, he is specifically gay. I think the entire male cast is gay.
| by Anonymous | reply 53 | March 21, 2022 4:55 PM |
It's the worst thing ever! IF she was hot I'd think she was fucking someone to keep it on the air.

S2 seems to be a filler season. I bet it gets cancelled.
| by Anonymous | reply 55 | March 22, 2022 1:17 AM |
It is partly produced by fox so it will probably last awhile after selling the rest to Disney they have to build up their IP again.

[quote]Is the guy who plays Kat’s boyfriend gay? I scoured the Internet, but I could not find anything specific
He wrote an article in the NY Times about breaking up with a woman because she was white. If he's gay and closeted, he made an extraordinarily bad decision about how to opportunistically pretend to be straight for his career.
| by Anonymous | reply 57 | March 24, 2022 8:39 AM |
The ratings suck. Unless it’s doing well in time-delayed viewing, I can’t imagine it will be back.

Remember "Must See TV" Thursdays? Me neither.
| by Anonymous | reply 59 | March 24, 2022 12:26 PM |
I feel like because the network is dumping two episodes a week and premiering after Christmas, it’s not really giving it much chance of being renewed.
| by Anonymous | reply 60 | March 24, 2022 1:53 PM |
"Shrill" is so much better.

The very sexy Andy Favreau, late of Campions, has joined the show and been shirtless, playing a cocky stud.

Last night was the season (or more likely, series) finale. In the first season, it was explained that Kat's father's death had inspired her to follow her dreams and open a cat cafe. But now, they're telling us she never wanted a cat cafe and that it was all just a grief-related decision. It seems to me like one of those last ditch efforts where the producers are telling Fox that if they give them another season, they'll come back with a new premise and supporting cast (e.g., Maude becomes a Congresswoman and moves to Washington).

I have the complete series of Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman on DVD - the official version, not a bootleg. I’m downsizing my dvd collection and would be happy to give it away for just the price of postage. If anyone is interested, let me know and we’ll figure it out.

Not so much, because her character was neurodivergent, which was sort of a blessing. It forced her to hold back.
