Writer Ava Lawson

What happened?

Everything was coming up C. Thomas. He was A list. Then overnight he was a TV guest star.

I was so in love with him.

by Anonymousreply 1November 10, 2015 3:17 AM

He was a cute teenager. They have an age limit. I enjoyed seeing him on Criminal Minds he was eeeevil.

by Anonymousreply 2November 10, 2015 3:18 AM

He was so beautiful in "Hitcher." The looks faded in his 20's, which is really early..

He was great in Southland.

by Anonymousreply 3November 10, 2015 3:23 AM

He looked good as a colored boy too. Imagine if he had made this movie today? Oh the SJWs pussys would be wetter than all get out. Cultural appropriation and all.

I thought Thomas was great in Soul Man. Still, my favorite 80s movie. However, Thomas has aged badly, as if he had too much sun through the years.

by Anonymousreply 5November 10, 2015 3:31 AM

His name sounds like something you'd see in a primary school reader:

See Dick run.

See Jane jump.

See Thomas howl.

by Anonymousreply 6November 10, 2015 3:34 AM

He got very sick and almost died a few years back. They had to remove most of his intestines. That takes a toll.

by Anonymousreply 7November 10, 2015 3:36 AM

He did private porn that was passed around among Hollywood elite.

by Anonymousreply 10November 10, 2015 4:10 AM

Really R10? That has to be before the illness eliminating his intestines, I hope!

by Anonymousreply 11November 10, 2015 4:12 AM

He had a recurring role on a cop show whose title escapes me, but it was relatively recent. A strange part for him, that of a screw-up cop, completely unreliable and refusing to take responsibility. It kind of pained me to see him in that light, but he played it very well.

Last month at the Chiller autograph show in New Jersey

He was never A-list. He made some B list movies that were decent/moderate hits (especially in the age of cable and video rentals). Lead as Pony-Boy in 'The Outsiders' was his biggest 'mainstream' movie, but that was in a really large cast of up and comers, many of whom surpassed him success-wise (Lowe, Swayze, Cruise, etc).

He remained in the same types of movies, but they just were less and less successful as time went on. He didn't hit the 'heights' of 'The Hitcher' and 'Soul Man' again. 'Red Dawn' and 'Grandview USA' were other large ensemble movies that were fairly successful for their time.

His resume is huge, so he's certainly never been lacking for work. Just nothing that has hit big for him.

He was on an episode of Comedy Central's Night After Night talk show hosted by Alan Havey back in the early 80's. He was promoting a movie alongside Jonathan Silverman and another actor who I forget. Anyway, one of the guys pipes up that Howell lost his virginity at 11 to a babysitter, which the other two guys seemed kind of in awe of. Howell said that she basically seduced him, and he was all smiles about it. Do many Mormon guys lose it to a babysitter? Maybe he joined up later in adulthood...

by Anonymousreply 17November 10, 2015 5:34 AM

r3 Looks generally deteriorate in your early 20s; tsss.

by Anonymousreply 18November 10, 2015 5:49 AM

Howell was actually on Night After Night in the early *90's*...

by Anonymousreply 19November 10, 2015 5:52 AM

I had such a crush on him in the 80s. Stay gold, Ponyboy. He was in this teen movie with Kelly Preston that I forget the name of. I fapped to it for so long before I realized I was into him, not her. I owned it on VHS and everything.

Like R7 said, his appendix ruptured in 2003 and they removed three feet of his intestines. He lost a lot of weight which may have contributed to his now gaunt appearance.

He had a nice face when he was younger.

He's not a Mormon after all, I was wrong up thread. All these years I thought he was a Mormon, crazy. Sorry for posting my stupid mistake on the thread.

by Anonymousreply 22November 10, 2015 8:46 AM

I liked him in The Hitcher with Rutger Hauer and Jennifer Jason Leigh, a good, scary movie.

He was great in Southland--I hated his character--but he was great.

by Anonymousreply 24November 10, 2015 8:59 AM

It was kind of a shocker to watch the first Amazing Spiderman film and see that he had extremely minor role as the power worker. I'd occasionly seen him the odd TV movie but to see him up on a big screen again, looking so much older, well, it was kind of bizarre after seeing him headline so much back in the 80's.

by Anonymousreply 25November 10, 2015 10:09 AM

I haven't seen him in anything notable besides "Outsiders," "Red Dawn," "E.T.," and that beach volleyball movie, and that's only thanks to endless cable reruns. The only other movie I saw him in was something with Juliette Lewis and a young Eliza Dushku on TNT years back.

by Anonymousreply 26November 10, 2015 12:35 PM

That was Southland, R12 and I agree with R24. Really good show that was canceled to soon.

There was a local talk radio show (L.A. market) and he'd be a guest from time to time and he is probably one of the funniest people I've ever heard.. I mean stand-up funny not actor funny. He had some great stories. Pretty cool guy.

by Anonymousreply 27November 10, 2015 12:58 PM

Secret Admirer. Love that movie.

by Anonymousreply 28November 10, 2015 1:17 PM

Rob Lowe talked about him quite a bit, very favorably, in his autobiography.

by Anonymousreply 29November 10, 2015 2:36 PM

RED DAWN IS ONLY LIKE THE THIRD BEST MOVIE EVER MADE!

by Anonymousreply 30November 10, 2015 11:22 PM

I always loved his shirtless pictures when he was younger. Great happy trail.

by Anonymousreply 31November 11, 2015 5:30 AM

I already mentioned both Hitcher and Southland way up in the thread. Sheesh!

by Anonymousreply 32November 11, 2015 5:33 AM

Is he bisexual? gay? When he was younger he was super handsome. When he matured he was super handsome in a different way ,but now he looks washed away and emaciated.

by Anonymousreply 33November 11, 2015 6:00 AM

No way he is only 48. He looks 60.

by Anonymousreply 34November 11, 2015 6:52 AM

What happened with his marriage to Rae dawn chong?

by Anonymousreply 35November 11, 2015 7:15 AM

Wait! Wait! R10, was that movie a casting couch porn film? Was he forced to do it in order to get work? Did he have sex with a man or woman in the film? If he did willingly he sounds like a sleazeball. Hollywood is so corrupt, I once read there was some casting couch movies floating around in the Hollywood circles years ago and the people that viewed the films thought it was hilarious ,which is cruel.

by Anonymousreply 36November 11, 2015 8:05 AM

Loved him as The Reaper on Criminal Minds.

by Anonymousreply 38November 13, 2015 4:19 PM

He was never particularly good looking

by Anonymousreply 39November 13, 2015 5:19 PM

He was marginal only, and there were far too many better looking, more talented actors. He got pushed into the background which was correct.

by Anonymousreply 40November 13, 2015 6:09 PM

He starred in a 1988 movie directed by Franco Zefferelli - "Young Toscanini".......that says something.....

by Anonymousreply 41September 2, 2018 4:22 AM

R7 I wonder who inherited the intestines. So hot.
