Brooch Chic

We'll have to get everyone out of their yoga pants and board shorts first, OP, brooches just don't go with slobby casual wear.

I love the lapel pins that Hercule Poirot wears ... especially the ones that hold a little flower bud.

The simple setting chosen for "Granny's Chips", allows its subjects (the Cullinan III & IV) to shine, visually uninterrupted. It's also believed to be the most valuable brooch in the world.
If you're going to wear diamonds...wear them like this.

If you're going to tell good taste to fuck itself and wear diamonds during the day... make it diamonds like THIS!

My mother wore brooches all the time. I have no idea where they all are now. My female relatives scavenged her jewelry (and pretty much the whole house) right after she died. My dad figured since he only had sons that there was no reason to not let those vultures have at it. I wish I still had some of her things.

Several times in my life I've run across an old queen who was wearing a beret or a tam literally covered with dozens of brooches and pins. It must weigh a ton.

It's a bit "old lady at the casino", but I do fucking love that, R8.

Oh, dear.
Mme. Einstain, will all these people be amputees with just the single hand among them? How the fuck do they get their brooches on, Madam?

I’ve thought about it OP but I’m afraid to broach the subject.

Any brooch looks better than the insane oversized flower pins worn by Carrie Bradshaw

I wore them a lot in the 80s and actually miss wearing them. Some are works of art.

R7 that's too bad. I was lucky that I got a bunch of my grandmother's brooches, my mom didn't want most of them. Most of them are costume brooches, but they are unique and have great designs. I have a few vintage Christmas brooches but they need some rehabbing; the "soft" parts like the ribbons and flocked parts are in rough shape. There are some vintage cocktail brooches, including some stars of different sizes, a jeweled hornet, a reindeer, and a jeweled brooch with a working clock face. Lots of fancy stuff, some of which I've worn. I'm looking forward to attending dressy events again; I miss throwing on a little eye-catching bit. I live in a town full of eccentrics & I know some folks love that kind of stuff.

I’ll wear a vintage one on the collar of an open, plain shirt once in a while, if I’m of a mood. That looks good with a silvery, lavender corduroy blazer I have that’s kind of battered.

I've always loved brooches. It's an easy piece of jewelry to wear. I often don't like anything on my fingers or ears or around my neck.
I have some beautiful pieces that were my mother's. I wear a lot of black so that's perfect for brooches.

My sisters divied up my mum's good jewelry. I got the brooches and her lovely evening bad collection. I had a shadow box made with deep blue velvet and made a nice display out of them.

My late mother had a lot of beautiful jewelry, including several brooches. I gave some of them to my 3 nieces and the remainder are set aside for my goddaughter when I die. A few are costume pieces, but most of them are made with real gemstones, so she'll be able to have the stones reset if it turns out she's not a brooch person.

I have hundred of brooches from my mother and grandmothers. Nobody wanted them, so I took them organized them. I bought little white jewelry boxes and squares of cotton to line the boxes. They are all stored away in several large upright jewelry chests in the basement. My nieces don’t have any interest in them, so I’m hoping the great nieces will be interested. Otherwise it’s going to be a hell of a rummage sale when I die!
I see these for sale on e-Bay - they go for about $5 at best.

I have a bunch that my mother and my grandmother owned. Gram's were lavish and gorgeous. (Subtle was not her thing.) I have them stored away safely.

A well placed brooch is your calling card. It makes a statement. It lets everyone know all about you without having to have a dreary conversation with them. Just think if you went to a social event and everyone was wearing a brooch. You could immediately determine who you wanted to associate with and who you didn’t.

I lived in them in the 80s,and amassed a huge collection, most of wich I sold in the late 90s. Ive still got a few I wear on occasion. Now that Im in toad territory,I might start sporting them more often. The one I cherish is a 1940s peacock brooch from Czechoslovakia thats a whopping 12 inches long and 4 5 wide. Every time I sport it I get tons of compliments. Its a statement for sure.
