Brie Larson
Christopher Lucas
Can anyone explain why she hasn't filmed anything in 4 years, aside from Nissan commercials and Captain Marvel 2? Does Disney and Nissan own her soul or something?

I was wondering that too; she won an Academy Award, yet she appears in superhero movies & car commercials.

I assume she has really conservative management. Her one post-Oscar prestige vehicle, The Glass Castle, bombed, so they’re going only where the money is. The Marvel contract has tied her up, what with shifting production dates for The Marvels. Now she’s doing a fucking Fast & Furious movie.
It really seems like prestige directors don’t want to hire her, either—they’ll go with Florence Pugh, Anya Taylor-Joy, or Margot Robbie instead.

She just joined the cast of Fast and Furious 10, so it would seem she's out to make some quick bucks now.

Her career had the longevity of brie cheese on a hot day.

I seem to remember something about a pandemic?

I wouldn’t recognize Ms. Larson on the street. That’s how low key her star wattage is.

I heard she's trapped in a room with an androgynous little boy somewhere.

BORING. BLAND. DOESN'T RATE.

Brie Larson is the new Elizabeth Shue.

Captain Marvel was boring

Seems like the poor man’s Carey Mulligan to me. And supposedly an asshole?

No one in Hollywood likes this cunt.
| by Anonymous | reply 12 | April 13, 2022 7:00 PM |
With all the content out there, you'd think she could at least get a Netflix series; Glass Castle was a bore on many levels - I can't imagine anyone holds that against her.
| by Anonymous | reply 13 | April 13, 2022 7:03 PM |
I think she does better in indie films or maybe needs another serious dramatic role in a quality biopic or something. She could play a spy in WWII or something.
Not sure why, but people love to hate on her in here and have for awhile.
I personally find her constant pandering on Instagram annoying and she’s showing off skin and bones these days and lost weight when she was already small. She doesn’t seem healthy or happy to me, but what do I know.
I just think she needs to try something else. Whatever she’s doing now isn’t working.

Her career is a lot like Hilary Swank's. She came out of seemingly nowhere to give a great performance, but she's hard to cast otherwise. The weird thing about Swank is she was somehow able to get TWO roles that suited he peculiar talents, but she was hard to cast otherwise.

Maybe it’s because she has the emotional range of a block of wood?

Never name your child after a dairy product.
| by Anonymous | reply 21 | March 10, 2023 5:03 PM |
She’s supposed to be in the adaptation of Lessons in Chemistry.
| by Anonymous | reply 22 | March 10, 2023 6:48 PM |
Yeah she’s got the Lessons In Chemistry limited series coming out on Apple TV in a few months. But I think she’s totally wrong for that character. From the novel, Elizabeth Zot is supposed to be very sharp; Brie Larson doesn’t strike me as a world class chemist. She needs to have a sense of style and commanding moral and intellectual authority - the kind of thing Kidman, in her noughties prime, would’ve excelled at. Brie Larson seems like more of an underdog. Not really someone you’d think would have to grit and know-how to transform their kitchen into a chemistry lab. But, more power to her. Maybe it’ll relaunch her career. Winslet would’ve nailed it in her prime as well.
I still think the Academy gave her that Oscar because most of them thought she’d actually been kidnapped.

She seems kind of odd and off-putting in interviews but I really like her as an actress. Her Oscar win gets shat on a lot here but i thought she totally deserved it. Outside of Room she’s also excellent in Short Term 12.
| by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 10, 2023 7:18 PM |
I preferred her in Short Term 12.
She had something of career as a teen actress and nascent pop star as well, to be fair.
| by Anonymous | reply 25 | March 10, 2023 7:28 PM |
Her utter lack of sex appeal is a hindrance, I think.
| by Anonymous | reply 26 | March 11, 2023 7:41 AM |
I had to google her as i always confuse her with Alicia Vikander, another whose career is a mystery. Her blonde hair and sultry photos look artificial, r26 is right, no sex appeal at all…

Wow, so boring looking that no one was interested in even posting a photo!

No one’s going to be able to take you serious with such a cheesy name, I miss the days of the Hollywood make over machine.

She’s box office poison.

She's extricably tied to "woke" in the minds of mass movie goers. She may or may not have spouted any of the ridiculous nonsense, unlike Rachel Ziegler, but she became the face of "girl power" due to "Captain Marvel" because folks saw it as pushing an agenda with various women of color in starring roles (which humorously actually was a thing in comics, so the one high profile time they should have done it, rather than all the other times, they still got nailed for "go woke, go broke").
She's also insufferable. When she did the appearances for both Captain Marvel and Avengers, she came off horribly. There are tons of clips of co-stars giving her the side eye. When Hemsworth and Evans who are viewed as nice guys (whether reality or not) can't contain their contempt during a 10 minute interview, you aren't going to have too many supporters.

While I can’t stand her smugness, I do appreciate all the work she’s done to finally end production of future Marvel movies.

They need more star power in a film like this. Plus too much girl power in a film for geeky boys/men.
| by Anonymous | reply 37 | November 10, 2023 7:04 PM |
Because she flops in other projects so they want to maintain her brand. But with The Marvels bombing this weekend, her brand is done.
| by Anonymous | reply 38 | November 10, 2023 7:09 PM |
Between this and the tepid Lessons in Chemistry, maybe she should ask Armie about making a living with time share sales?
| by Anonymous | reply 39 | November 10, 2023 7:10 PM |
The cache of a best actress oscar winner is high. She will be able to work in smaller movies and supporting roles forever. She IS respected as an actress.
My guess: 1) Her Marvel contract may have already fucked up several potential productions she would have joined or starred in. She is not a powerhouse. She helps with financing but can't guarantee it. Smaller projects bounce around the schedule due to financing and she's probably had to drop out of tons of projects already. 2) She only wants to work 6-8 months per year. Marvel movies can be grueling to film. 3) She might not read that much. Its easy to say "Yes, I will accept $3 million for 3 weeks of filming on Fast and Furious, which will film from Oct 1-Oct 18." It's hard to read a script that is only partially financed, do meetings with potential or attached directors, give approvals for rest of cast, wait for financing/have to do financing meetings, etc. Her agents may not be sending her anything that isn't financed with a start date--and she's ok with that. And those offers may be few and far between on small prestige projects (which she can't do anyway). 4) She's doing a series for Apple called Lessons in Chemistry. If it goes for more than 1 season, that plus Marvel (assuming there's any more involvement for her after this latest weak box office) may make other roles next to impossible. There are some actors who can't say no or will film on weekends, get on red eyes to film for a few days in between other things, etc. Whatever that labor of love movie would be would pay nothing...

It’s a flop. Thank you Brie Larson and your lack of charisma/fug face for effectively killing the Marvel plague that’s brought the bar down so low on the possibility of any connection between art and mainstream cinema.
