Breakin' (1984)

Writer Daniel Martin

I was only 8 when I saw this in the theater. I never realized how much gayness there was in this movie at the time.

Roger Ebert even pointed this out in his review of the film:

"Kelly’s two dance partners have street names they’re proud of. Adolfo “Shabba-Doo” Quinones plays Ozone, a sensitive Latino who likes Kelly but is alert for the slightest sign of condescension, and Michael “Boogaloo Shrimp” Chambers plays Turbo, whose hands and feet have lives of their own. The screenplay is so inconsistent, it originally suggests they’re gay, then totally drops that notion. "

Just read that Shabba-Doo has passed from COVID. RIP Ozone.

That sucks, he had a hell of a career though.

I love Breakin'. I remember seeing Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo and thinking it was the best movie ever LOL

I bought the Shout Blu-Ray a few years ago and realized part 2 is really cheesy but the first film is still very good and entertaining. The dancing is amazing.
