And thats the reason why many are eager to do it, because it pays extremely well too, for the actors

It's clear that the mothership, BS I and the Days Xmas Special were big hits for Peacock. If they weren't, there wouldn't be a BS 2: Electric Boogaloo. Peacock needs content and the licensing fee to Corday productions and the talent/production costs are nothing, comparatively speaking, for BS. The program is a loss leader in their longer-term strategy of having X number of hours of “original” and exclusive programming. No one wants soap viewers, which have putrid demographics.

I loved it. Were some people expecting 80s/90s era huge sets and location shoots? B&B travels because they get kickbacks from the countries they visit because of the show's popularity over there and Bell Productions can write it off as show promotion on their taxes. Hollyoaks is an entirely different beast. The show looked nice, with some different sets and music.
The Good:
1) Love Steve Burton's role. He and KA have chemistry.
2) I loved Steve with all of his kids.
3) Trip's ultra tight jeans
4) Megan is back!!
5) John Black at the Pride Party. How fun was that.
My only complaints are:
1) Nu Joey is not hot.
2) Andrew Donovan is not hot.
3) KA is really starting to age. Reckell has moved past starting. That neck, oy vey!

Someone (I want to say Lucas Adams) gave an interview and said Peacock spends A LOT of money on the Beyond Salem shows. He wasn't insulting DAYS but he said Beyond Salem was a big deal when he showed up on set.. He talked like the paycheck was pretty decent too.

R171 I don't think RSW shoots himself up with steroids like SB obviously has. .. And having experience as a model and having formerly dated a makeup artist for years, RSW has probably heard a lot about how important it is to use sunscreen and moisturize. He shows himself outside shirtless a lot, but I can't ever recall seeing a photo where he looks sunburned. His complexion (dark hair and eyes) might also help prevent sun damage.
Meanwhile, guys in Burton's generation are kind of hit and miss when it comes to whether they took such precautions sooner, rather than later. Plus, Burton is a blue-eyed blond. They usually don't 'weather' the sun as well over time and should start wearing a big ol' sun hat early on. But here we have Steve still putting up photos where he looks like a parboiled lobster. It's like he still isn't taking this into consideration. I've seen some of him where the skin on his upper chest already has that crepe-y Dixie Wentworth look. Even 52 is kinda young for that.

I think Jamey is pretty damn great because he remembers the history of the show and pushes them to do something different. Yes, re-Ron is re-Ron, but they wanted to do a Bo and Hope story and Jamey was the one who remembered this particular storyline and it’s at least interesting. 10 years ago, this would have simply been a back from the dead snorefest. Instead we get a great villain like Megan Hathaway back and Thomas Banks in all his campy glory. I know nothing about Janet’s podcast, so you could be right about him being a hypocrite. In the end though, results are all that matters and at least Days is doing something that the other lame soaps aren’t.
The heaven stuff is horrendous though. Is Loretta Divine always this annoying?

Here's the thing. Jamey the podcaster is not Jamey the writer. These people who do these soap podcasts and who are on soap Twitter are fine, but they're not actually writing and producing these things. Anybody can be a critic, but not everyone can actually do what Jamey has done/is doing.
Most soap fans cannot begin to understand the compromises you make in writing one of these things. What it takes to pitch a story and hope that you get at least 35% of what you actually want on screen. Soap fans go, why not just do XYZ or bring back this one or that one? It doesn't work that way and it never has.
You have a bunch of people to answer to and bunch of egos to kiss, all with their own thoughts about story and the production and most of the time they don't line up and sometimes you just have to make it work with give and take.
I don't know Jamey from Adam, I just listened to his podcast and followed his career. I understand that he may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I applaud him for working hard to make his dream come true.

Yeah, funny how this series is billed around Bope, but for me, the Bo in Heaven scenes have become fast-forward material and the Hope with Cin scenes are the least interesting of the remainder. .. Jamey got the job because he kissed Ron’s ass and the other writer on staff died and he wasted no time going after her gig.
All he does is rehash storylines from the past and mucks them up. Just like Re-Ron.
Neither one has no issue with Lani going to jail for self defense while Clyde the rapist walks around free.

R262, a little simplistic. Jamey talked to a woman -- i forget her name -- maybe 3 or 4 years ago now and she says wow, you need to meet Will Packer. She sets the meeting up.
He meets with Jamey, sees his passion, and Will tells him to write a bible. Jamey wrote Ambitions.
That runs a season on OWN and Jamey gets a great manager and agent out of it. HE'S IN THE CLUB. And unlike other daytime writers, he's had his own show in prime time.
You have to have THREE things to get hired in show business -- you have to have something they want, you have to not be a threat, and they have to like you. Jamey hit the trifecta and got lucky.
Yes, the writer at DAYS (a lovely lady from everything I heard) died, which created an opening. Jamey's AGENT got him in the door and the show opted to go with Jamey.
Is Jamey Doug Marland or Bill Bell? No.
And I admit more than once I see characters on days say shit that's lifted out of an old history book. (We get it. Y'all did your homework. Ya-hoo.)
But I don't hate the guy because he's going after what he wants in life.

R265, I agree; Jamey used to trash the shows; I think he said in an interview for Ambitions he couldn't go back to reporting on soaps b/c he knows how hard the job is.
I thought it was funny when he wrote at the height of Mal Young's lunacy at Y&R 'I owe Maria Bell an apology.'
I thought Ambitions was okay. I thought it deserved a second season but I wasn't broken up by it being axed. Not a huge fan of Jamey's work; I can't say I know enough about it. Again, I just admire him -- or anyone -- who goes for their dreams.
And I hope he takes care of his health,, R266; if that's what you're referring to.

R267 No, it's no AU. The Beyond Salem events just take place after what you are seeing on Days this week. Marlena and Kayla are still in Salem on the main show this week and are supposed to fly out later to join the events happening in Beyond Salem.

As fun as Beyond Salem is----they sure seem to be ripping off the ABC Soaps.....Last Seasons "Alamain Jewels" was a rip off of OLTL "Mendorra Jewels" storyline....Super Happy Megan is alive but the Cryogenics Storyline is a rip off of Stavros Resurrection on GH......At this rate Susan Lucci will be in Beyond Salem III...

Jamey brings to DAYS what the other 3 soap's writing staffs could use: An encyclopedic knowledge of the show's history for the last 40 years. DAYS was his show (after Another World and Santa Barbara- yes, I've been listening to the DC podcasts for years), and Bo and Hope are his fave supercouple. He manifested his dream job.
Meanwhile, on BS2, I haven't watched the last episode yet, but Thursday was great, and Alfonso and Reckell really delivered.

Wrong ... the kids -- teens, college kids -- who watched DAYS in the mid 80s are late 50s early 60s now.

I just finished today.
I'm assuming you all heard my very loud queeny scream when Nurse Honeycutt walked into the room. Nurse Honeycutt was my favorite, I'm assuming that was her granddaughter.
My second scream was that ending. Called it!!! 😁😎😉
And I know that I'm all alone in this, but I think that Hope and Harris had chemistry and I wanted them to fuck.

R286, I loved Honeycutt too. It was so weird seeing the Father Knows Best daughter and Andy Taylor's girlfriend playing a killer nurse.
Elinor is still alive at 85; ironically, her last credit is a judge on Y&R about 10 years ago.
I can't believe they GAVE us this particular ending. It's the one fans have wanted for quite some time.

Jamey is trying to lure Scoche Marin, who saved Y&R, over to DAYS in a crossover as Katherine Chancellor. They really want to goose the ratings for the two Sony properties. Word on the street is that they will make Marlena into Mrs. C’s daughter. If it is true, Scoche will knock this out of the (Chancellor) park!

I will also say that it was good cohesive story and set up some really nice story threads for Part 3 and the mothership. It's also nice to see Days get this kind of love. Yeah, I know that it's not the lush production values of the 80s and 90s, but it was really nice to see some new sets (even the redressed old sets) and extras and a nice party scene with tuxes. I have absolutely nothing to complain about, but I'm also a 50 year old gay dude who remembers the original story and all of those callbacks were great for me. This hit all the right beats. So, good job Days!
