Bed Bath & Beyond has almost kicked the bucket

Writer Robert Guerrero

Is there really a need for these stores anymore?

One of the last two times I stepped foot in this place, they didn't have the product I was looking for or were out of stock of it, and a store associate wound up ordering it for me and having it shipped to my house directly.

I could have done that myself and spared me the trip.

Morphe just collapsed. BB&B has been on the fence for years.

There is (sometimes you need something right now, etc.) but not Bed, Bath and Beyond. This space is already dominated by Walmart and Target.

Yes I know I did that backwards. It is early.

Other meme stocks that have plunged precipitously: AMC (currently in the $3 range) and GameStop (just over $16 and hovering near its one-year low).

by Anonymousreply 5January 6, 2023 11:27 AM

these motherfuckers. I ordered an electric blanket from them WEEKS ago and it's 'still processing'. Customer service is no help, cannot cancel it, they don't answer email, chat is overseas. fuck them, first time I ever purchased from them, never will again.

Imagine having to work at such a shithole, at any level, retail or corporate suite. The entire operation has such negative energy.

by Anonymousreply 8January 6, 2023 12:27 PM

That thread is several months old.

by Anonymousreply 9January 6, 2023 12:40 PM

Sears is down to around 20 stores. There is little, if any, merchandise in any of them and even fewer customers.

Yet they continue to hang on, and for what reason no one knows. I would imagine the same thing could happen to BBB.

by Anonymousreply 10January 6, 2023 12:41 PM

OP- Kmart and Sears

They have TRULY kicked the bucket 🪣

by Anonymousreply 11January 6, 2023 12:43 PM

BB&B used to have four stores in my area, and they are now down to one. They closed their third store right before Thanksgiving. Macy's is also in the middle of a five year 'downsizing' they began in 2020 - though yesterday, they only announced four stores closing for the first quarter of 2023.

by Anonymousreply 12January 6, 2023 12:49 PM

There is a need for a store where you can buy sheet and towels in person. You might want to see what the fabric feels like before you buy.

There's no need for a store that only sells cheap products and is out of stock for >50% of sizes.

by Anonymousreply 13January 7, 2023 12:04 AM

BBB is just so vastly overpriced for mediocre quality goods.

There's literally nothing there that I don't have several other places I'd want to go first for cheaper items.

They needed to specialize in a similar way that Container Store did....either have your own in house brands, or carry things no one else does. And they didn't really do either of those things, they just carry the same shit Container Store or Kohl's does but for $20 more.

R6 rescuechick, if you need to contact them here's some info on how to email upper management.

Their store name now sounds like a Millennial Era law firm’s.

I loved this chain when it first came out. It was a fun trip up and down the aisles, like Crate & Barrel. Sorry to see them go.

by Anonymousreply 17January 7, 2023 12:28 AM

r15, thanks! I contacted my payment processor and will hit up the contacts in your link tomorrow! It's not even a lot of money but I never would have ordered from them except I knew exactly which electric blanket I wanted and googling it brought them up at the lowest price by about 30 percent. I am just pissy, you know?

by Anonymousreply 18January 7, 2023 12:29 AM

R18 you're welcome. It's the principle of the matter.

PS that site has good contact info for lots of companies.

I have bookmarked it r19!

The store in my town has scaled back dramatically. If it weren’t next to a college it would be gone.

Oh the HUMANITY!!

I don’t think there are any more Sears or Kmarts in this state. How do they merchandise with so few stores, which must have almost no customers? It’s the slowest retail death ever. I can live fine without BBB.I would hate to see their World Market go away.

People get sheets and towels and things at Marshall’s and TJ Maxx. Those stores seem to be doing well since they’re always changing up the merchandise. It’s more interesting to browse there.

by Anonymousreply 24January 7, 2023 1:29 AM

87 more stores closing.

BB&B is (almost) DEAD! to ALL of US!

They shifted their merchandise from decent stuff to crap.

You used to be able to buy decent sheets, towels, down comforters, small kitchen appliances, kitchenware, and such from them. Now, it's just all crap stuff that you're better off going to the Dollar Store to buy.

by Anonymousreply 26January 31, 2023 10:02 PM

They were always tepid at best.

The fun of shopping there was some of the new gadgets they'd have, but everything they had (including bedding) was available in some way at a comparable level from Target, Macy's or Kohl's.

As online shopping and especially Amazon let shoppers see a wide marketplace for gadgets, the appeal of shopping at BB&B - which was always overpriced - fell apart.

by Anonymousreply 27January 31, 2023 10:10 PM

Haven’t been in one of their stores in years but it was nice knowing they were around if I needed a specific kitchen gadget or a good selection of new towels. This thread made me realize I haven’t seen one of their once ubiquitous 20% off coupons in the mail in a very long time.

I try to avoid Amazon shopping whenever possible but all these physical store closings are making it harder

by Anonymousreply 29January 31, 2023 10:17 PM

Slightly off topic, but customer service overall is just crap now. If you try to call them on the phone, they push you to chat, which eats up more time with automated responses. If you do hang in there, you get someone in the Philippines (I don't mean to be xenophobic, I like Filipinos) whose English just isn't up to the task. Apple and Amazon used to be pretty good, but even they seem to be going downhill. Why isn't there a consumer revolt against this bullshit?

by Anonymousreply 30January 31, 2023 10:19 PM

Amazon, Wal-Mart, Target, and TJ Maxx/Marshalls/Homegoods. That's it. The rest of the brick n' mortar tetail are dead in the water, whether they want to admit it or not.

by Anonymousreply 31January 31, 2023 10:31 PM

So true, r30. I had to contact AT&T recently about an unknown phone number connected to my account (I was worried about possible fraud.) I spent over an hour on the phone going through the automated menus and getting passed from one department to another. When I finally got to the department I needed to speak with the connection was so bad and the operator’s accent so thick it was impossible to have a conversation. I tried calling back and the connection was still terrible so I finally did an online chat and fortunately was able to resolve it that way. Not a good sign when your phone company can’t do usable phone calls

by Anonymousreply 32January 31, 2023 10:40 PM

You can't "feel the fabric" at Target or Walmart, or any of the discount stores now either. Everything bedding is in huge plastic bag containers, so you have to buy it and return it if you don't like it, like you would with Amazon, but with less convenience of returns.

Honestly, who wants strangers pawing through their bedding?

Wait. Don't answer that, some of you.
