It's normal to wonder why that happened to those people. If a car, at a very high rate of speed as that one was, hits something quite solid that is lower than the front bumper of the car, just right the car will go airborne very easily. And especially if either of the front tires hits the object it will cause the car tire to pull the object under the car which will then make it go under the corresponding rear tire and trust me, that car is gonna fly.

I saw that happen on the freeway once many years ago. A tire still on the rim fell off the back of a pickup truck and the car traveling behind the pickup hit that tire with its left front wheel pushing the tire back underneath the rear wheel and that car went in the air like a jet and landed in the median of the freeway upside down.
