Baked beans on toast was what I ate growing up in Scotland

British, because they're more savoury and go well on toast. US Baked Beans are not right at all which is why Seppo's probably think beans on toast is weird, that sugary sweet BBQ flavour does not fit well.

American, but I have Southern roots and they go well with spareribs, coleslaw, and cornbread.

I like both for different reasons. American beans are made with UK Beans have a tomato base with much less sugar which makes it more savory so they can be eaten on toast.

Those pallid British beans in tomato sauce ((shudder)), so unappealing.

Could there be a more high-carb meal than beans on toast?

Aren’t Boston baked beans more similar to British style. Because southern, cookout style baked beans are nothing like Boston baked beans.

American baked beans (also called Boston baked beans) are made with molasses and pork salt (or bacon), and they're slow-cooked in the oven. English-style baked beans (Heinz baked beans being the most famous) are more savory and made with a tomato sauce base
