At last Chuck Todd to be fired.
William Jenkins
"Longtime NBC personality Chuck Todd is reportedly on the chopping block at the network as top brass pursue a shakeup at his poorly rated Sunday show “Meet the Press.” "

Love the entire Morning Joe cast, from Morning Willie and Smirky Lemire to Heilman and Leibovitz, and Katty, Rattner is being slowly replaced by the new guy who ends the 4th hour. It is beautiful political theater.

Thank God. Todd is one of several reasons I refuse to even watch MSNBC anymore (except Lawrence's show).
I don't know how anyone can like Andrea Mitchell after she reported daily for months on the Hillary email story. She turned a lot of Democratic voters against Hillary. Then, she and her ancient husband went on to make a ton of money with the Trump tax cuts.
An interesting side note about Andrea. Her first husband was a black man named Gil Jackson. She dumped him after around 5 years of marriage and he subsequently died of MS. I think Andrea has scrubbed the internet of any photos of him. It wouldn't fit with her image or something.

He actually has the job of political director as well. He made a lot of decisions on cast, what to cover, etc. That's what Dana Bash is on CNN. Two horrible choices.
So who will replace him?

It was one of the biggest stories because the press made it so. Not Trump's bankruptcies, not Trump's rapes.
There was nothing there, so, yes, she shouldn't have reported on it day after day after day.

I think with CNN's new ownership and shift to the right - MSNBC realizes that the liberal side of things is now all theirs. And Chuck Todd doesn't fit into that. And I'd love Rachel to come back.
| by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 30, 2022 4:42 PM |
At one point Rachel Maddow was "being considered" to replace Todd. She appeared on MTP... and though I like her, she didn't play that well in the format. Kristen Welker is ... a little meh.
I think in terms of "thinking on your feet with clear and focused questions" Nicolle Wallace would be good. I doubt she's even interested. Andrea Mitchell is borderline senile, and has been for a while. Kathy Tur would be ok.

Another vote for napalming the Morning Joe crew. Those two troll hosts followed Trump around the country working to elect him and then turned like the cowards they are once they realized the rest of us weren’t gonna get on board his freak train. Now they’re suddenly woke. Joe Scarborough has always seemed to me like he has a mental illness or some psychological issue. I find his delusional self importance and smugery slightly amusing because he is so, so unaware of how moronic he is and that his show is still on the air only due to a lack of competition. But if an anvil fell on his head mid-broadcast, I think I’d blurt out a laugh before composing myself enough to feel sorry for him. Not that I watch that shit. Haven’t tuned in since just after the 2016 election.

Completely agree; the only thing I can figure is that he's got nudes of someone high up because *everyone* seems to hate him - right & left.
It seems like the days of anyone being able to live in whatever middle ground still exists is gone. Hacks like Lady G just go on these shows to shout talking points from the Master, so there's nothing really debate or dissect - just someone screaming lies at the top of their lungs so they can get clips on social media for their fangurls.
I really don't know what the answer is, but I'm baffled it's taken them this long to get rid of this hack

I’ve been taking a break from infotainment stuff since 2020, but the key to Russert’s success, and what Todd lacks, is the ability to think quickly and ask a follow-up question that might be awkward and trigger hostility. Russert never asked with anything less than courtesy, but he would ask and then sit and make the guest answer with a pause. Is there anyone like that anymore?

Guess you know little about the NY Pest. The only decent NY newspapers were The NY Times and the NY Daily News. Newsday was OK.
The Post has never been a good newspaper, it was always more like the National Inquirer, than an actual informative newspaper, then it got much worse when that ugly Reich Wing Aussie Rupert Murdoch bought that trashy rag. The Pest might as well start hiring Q weirdos, the paper is now that terrible.

They're literally unwatchable. along with their other flaws, I just hate it when they get great guests on and they won't let them talk. Joe rants on and on until you want to take a baseball bat to the TV set. Years ago, I used to see their guests disagree with him, and actually had a couple of falling outs live on the air. He would humiliate anyone who disagreed. One of his regulars walked out on him and he had to go to commercial. What an asshole.

Hmm... the person might not be. Let's see if we all can agree that Hillary brought A LOT of it on herself because of her too overcautious dealings with the press. But, with that accepted, Andrea was overly aggressive when reporting on Hillary. A woman whom she said she has covered for years. Andrea Mitchell was near the levels of Maureen Dowd of the NY Times. But, there were other women who gave off the impression that they were out to get Hillary too. I believe we could add Amy Chozick of the Washington Post to this list too.

Thing is, Russert rarely asked follow up questions. I remember being extraordinarily frustrated with him during the Bish administration. He let them lie with abandon. Every once in a while….and I mean *once* in a while….he’d ask a follow up or comment on what a politician had said in the past about the same topic.
It’s kind of like John McCain & Liz Cheney …people are so desperate to hold them up & praise them for doing 1 or 2 good things but ignore the other 98%, which resulted in toxic policy/ or toxic talking points that brought us to where we are today. When Russert died suddenly, everyone put a halo on him. It’s sad he died, but he really wasn’t all that great.

I used to listen to MTP as a podcast. It was the same pattern. Chuck gets to the end of an interview and tells guests (say, crazy Ron Johnson) he will let them have the last week. And they unleash ridiculous lies.
Johnson: “Well, Chuck, what the Dems are doing is illegal, the Trump economy is unparalleled in history, the economy is always weak under Dems and the Dems have made it clear that they don’t want to work with us to lower drug costs and strengthen Social Security and they’re working to destroy Israel.”
Todd: Senator Ron Johnson, thank you very much for being here on a busy Sunday morning. I’ll be rooting for your Packers every Sunday, assuming they aren’t playing my Dolphins, hardeeharhar.”

Anyone remember early MtP? It was one political guest being interviewed by several journalists. It was not “Meet Tim Russert.” In my mind, Russert is the one who ruined MtP. He spent years doing a religious show on NBC and people thought he was a swell, affable guy. He had no business being host of MtP.

And, that's the problem. That's why I totally gave up CNN many years ago during the Clinton/Trump campaign. The moderators just simply allowed the GOP to lie without any challenge at all. This is EXACTLY what the GOP wants and wanted. If they don't get their way they refuse to appear on news programs. True news organizations should vilify them for this but no. This is why I have so much respect for Pete Buttigieg! He'll go on FOX without hesitation knowing that they will always try to set a trap for him but he comes through with flying colors each and every time!

At least she graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Johns Hopkins University with a B.A. degree in political science. Something that the Toad lacks.
I didn’t care for Russert either. He was a bloviator who was very impressed with himself. He wanted to appear evenhanded, but he wasn’t. He would frequently let the Repugs lie and prevaricate shamelessly and would sit there like a stenographer. Oh, but he could bore into a Democrat on the most minute points with laser-like focus, all the while continuing to beat a dead horse.
Andrea Mitchell is not up for this task and probably never was. And while I adore Willie Geist, this is not his forte.

Ali Velshi. He’s been all over the network and is recognizable across multiple demos. He’s male (it shouldn’t matter, but realistically it still does). He’s a diversity choice, but non-threatening. He’s good at delivering the news and asking follow up questions (even if it’s someone in his ear, he can bring that producer with him). He registers as neutral to likable, which helps put people at ease, but I’ve seen him turn up the heat when he’s frustrated by an answer or the interviewee’s avoidance. I can’t think of anyone in-house who would be better other than Lawrence, but he’s too quick to lose his temper and has ruffled too many feathers on the GOP side.

[quote] Where are the new generations of stable news anchors?
Journalism doesn't hold the allure it once did. It's seen as a dying business. Nobody wants to go into journalism these days because of the long hours, shitty pay, and the constant bashing that journalists endure from both sides of the political spectrum (this thread is a perfect example of that). There are no modern-day Walter Cronkites waiting in the wings. It's similar to the reason that there are so few young, rising politicians.
Also, you can bitch about Chuck Todd engaging in "bothsidesism" by allowing Republicans to state their talking points, but whoever takes his place will do the same thing because "Meet the Press" is on NBC, not MSNBC. NBC won't let an unabashed liberal take Chuck's place. Or, if they did, they would force them to suppress their views. If someone like Rachel Maddow became the host, no Republicans would want to appear on the show. And while that might seem like a great thing, NBC wouldn't allow it to happen.

I Already saikd Ali Velshi. I Support that. But y'all better pray they don't ask Smerconish. I hate him. And watch out for Ari Melber. He may be eyeing the show.
I have no problem at all with Zerflina Maxwell. I have a huge problem with Tiffany Cross. Very harsh voice. I have found certain people have very annoying voices. Erin Burnett on CNN is horrible. Kaitlin Collins, is so annoying I cannot watch her reports.
I have to wonder if the format and the intent of MTP needs a complete change. Because I get it. The idea of having a group of reporters sit around and discuss the news of the week or the top stories and d isect them may be useful, but even more useful would be a portion of the show devoted to media criticism. Like Brian Stelter attempted to do.

R148 No, it's not about putting out both points of view--it's about not letting Republican operatives get away with vomiting out obvious BS talking points and lies and sitting there and saying nothing in response. Bill Maher has been doing this for years too (he's a comedian, I know but he has a political show and does the exact same thing). Eric Boehlert spent years documenting how MTP and the other Sunday shows were slanted Republican by having 2 to 1 GOP to Democratic Party guests.
I stopped watching these shows years ago specifically because there was no pushback on GOP lies and nonsense. Why waste my time and give MTP the ratings? I can do the fact checking myself and debunk the BS on my own since the likes of Chucky Toad aren't going to do it.
| by Anonymous | reply 154 | September 1, 2022 4:42 PM |
Making sure that "both sides get heard" is very different from following the truth, not allowing people to dissemble, making people accountable.

[quote]No, it's not about putting out both points of view--it's about not letting Republican operatives get away with vomiting out obvious BS talking points and lies and sitting there and saying nothing in response.
The only reason why people hate Chuck Todd so much is because they want MTP to be more like any MSNBC show. Because if you watch any of the Sunday morning shows you’d know they’re all alike. And if you don’t believe me just google Margret Brennan Ivanka Trump interview.
I’d also like to point out some of the most memorable sound bytes (alternative facts, truth isn’t truth and Chuck Todd laughing right in the face of Ted Cruz) came out of push back from Chuck Todd.
About a year or so ago, Chuck Todd had a guest on that drove twitter wild. After hours of relentless mud being slung at him, Todd posted a clip from a show…the clip he posted was from George Stephanopolous who had the same guest on the same day and did far less push back than Todd did and you know what Twitter did…continued to bash Todd not realizing the clip shown wasn’t his show.
It’s not Chuck Todd, it’s all of you for wanting MTP and Todd to be like Rachel Maddow. It’s not…get over it.
| by Anonymous | reply 156 | September 1, 2022 4:56 PM |
R156 It's not about making MTP like the Rachel Maddow show in the sense that I want it to have some liberal bent. I just want the obvious lies debunked--that can be done if the host isn't totally lazy and has some nads. Republicans tell giant whopper lies repeatedly (like there's 87,000 IRS armed agents coming to get grandma) but Democrats generally tend not to make up giant nonsense lies (yes, they might exaggerate or stretch the truth but it's nowhere near the same).
It's about debunking the BS because when it goes unchallenged people tend to believe it when its repeated over and over again. And yes, Stephanopoulos and the others do this too but Chuck Turd is the biggest offender. Sorry, that's just his record. Get over it.
| by Anonymous | reply 157 | September 1, 2022 5:02 PM |

Yes, I am fully aware that MSNBC aired "MTP Daily" hosted by Chuck Todd (although that didn't start until 2015; "Meet the Press" has been airing on NBC since 1947). But you're missing the point. The point is that "bothsidesism," "down-the-middle" anchors and hosts like Chuck Todd and Andrea Mitchell (and Jose-Diaz Balart and Hallie Jackson, etc.) may appear on MSNBC (during the daytime hours), but you won't see opinion-based commentators like Rachel Maddow or Chris Hayes hosting NBC News shows. NBC News will never name someone like Rachel to be Chuck Todd's "Meet the Press" replacement. The Sunday morning edition of "Meet the Press" will always be a roughly equal mix of Democrats and Republicans, hosted by someone who is neutral (or pretends to be neutral). It will never be like "The Rachel Maddow Show."

(It started on Mutual radio in 1945) With the demise, this century of THE Guiding Light(CBS), the only remaining major shows from the Golden Age of Radio to still be in production are MTP(NBC), The Grand Ole Opry(WSM 650am & Circle, their own network), and the Mormon Church's Music & the Spoken Word(Syndicated). Also, MTP was created by a woman, Martha Rountree who served as the program's first and so far only regular female moderator, leaving in 1953. Why has no SJW/feminist pointed that out?

Chuck Todd already confirmed 3 weeks ago that he's staying at MTP, dears.

^ Yeah, he’s not going anywhere. (Really) fake news, OP.

I don’t think his exit is imminent but I do believe he doesn’t have a long future on Meet the Press.

Nobody will be better as a replacement on Meet the Press because NO ONE WATCHED THE SHOW ANYWAY.

Perhaps you do, R204.
But many intelligent individuals are turned off by Chuck Toad and his non-college graduate lack of of nuance, sophistication and intelligence.

Katy Tur would be a poor choice. I'd hate to lose Nicolle on weekday afternoons, but she would be very good in that role. She's always very polite but not afraid to push back. She interviewed some Republican several weeks ago about his book and really pushed him on tough questions.

Nicolle’s intense partisanship works on a cable channel, but it wouldn’t pass muster on the network.

Nicole Wallace's new husband Mike Schmidt who's been on her show a couple of times a week since the wedding, hasn't been on all last week or today. Trouble in Happy Valley?

^ How interesting that Nicolle points out that Peter Baker & Susan Glasser, authors of Divided, a new Trump book, are married, but never mentions her regular guest Michael Schmidt is her husband.

“My next guest is the highly respected journalist for the New York Times who also rubbed my clit sore last night with his weirdly angled cock, please welcome to the show Michael Schmidt!”

R208 or maybe working on a big story. Or a book. Or maybe the producer was afraid of the dreaded nepotism term.

She's another Asian Republican. Oh excuse me, "former" Republican like Morning Joe.

I love former Republicans, still conservatives.
Fang to replace Mitchell.
