Another Billy Porter hissyfit

Why at this point in his career is he still playing victim?
| by Anonymous | reply 3 | April 19, 2023 10:13 PM |
No one cares about this clown.
Hi, Billy! (Since I know you're the type of person who has an hourly google alert on his own name.)
| by Anonymous | reply 4 | April 19, 2023 10:18 PM |
One thing I do doubt is his Sarah Huckabeast smokey eye shadow in the pic of him up top.
| by Anonymous | reply 5 | April 19, 2023 10:21 PM |
James Baldwin would hate Billy Porter.

[quote] “People Have Been Doubting Me My Whole Life”
And rightfully so.
| by Anonymous | reply 7 | April 19, 2023 10:27 PM |
He's annoyed me as far back as The Broken Hearts Club.
| by Anonymous | reply 8 | April 19, 2023 10:28 PM |
I love the Bjork 'do.
He must fancy himself a little Scandinavian girl.
| by Anonymous | reply 9 | April 19, 2023 10:29 PM |
I go back even further than you, R8. I had the misfortune of seeing him plat Teen Angel in the '94 revival of Grease. He was a big, fat untalented ham even back then.

[quote] During an appearance on The Tamron Hall Show, Porter hit back at critics saying, “First and foremost, the internet has created a space where it’s made people think that their opinion matters at all — it doesn’t. I am 53 years old and I’ve dedicated my life to my art and my craft."
If their opinions don't matter, then why is he having a hissy fit?
| by Anonymous | reply 11 | April 19, 2023 10:30 PM |
He's a professional male hysteric.
| by Anonymous | reply 12 | April 19, 2023 10:32 PM |
James Baldwin deserves nothing but pure class. Someone like Barry Jenkins, but an actor.

[quote] “Question me at your own peril.”
Spoken like Queen Circe--his real dream part!
| by Anonymous | reply 14 | April 19, 2023 11:02 PM |
He’s perfect for James Baldwin: black, gay, and exhausting.
| by Anonymous | reply 15 | April 19, 2023 11:17 PM |
Bow down, bitches - BOW DOWN!
| by Anonymous | reply 17 | April 19, 2023 11:24 PM |
I look forward to the Oscar nomination.
DataLounge nearly imploded over Lady Activia’s campaign season…we are not ready for Billy Porter.
Calling it now: a red carpet look, followed by a change into demure audience attire that has a secret tab to reveal ANOTHER look as he walks to accepts his statuette.
| by Anonymous | reply 19 | April 19, 2023 11:34 PM |
“It’s alright. Call it whatever you want, arrogant… whatever you want. I’ve worked hard for this,” he continued.
Well, he does know about arrogance. I’ll give him that.

[quote]I do not now, nor will I ever, adjudicate my life or humanity in sound bites on social media. I’m going to focus on the work — that’s all I can do.
He's talking about you tired queens. There's literally no "hissyfit" here. This is a response to a question on a talk show. He said he doesn't give a shit about you, and he's literally working on the actual script, something half a dozen other have tried to do and never finished. I mean, how dare he do actual work?
| by Anonymous | reply 21 | April 19, 2023 11:41 PM |
I’ve always found Baldwin, in appearance and in his writing to be sensual and sexy and passionate, always effortlessly so.
And effortlessness is an alien concept to Porter.
| by Anonymous | reply 23 | April 19, 2023 11:44 PM |
Straight people are like moths to Billy Porter's flame!
He is precisely the kind of Queer of Color who checks off all their boxes and leaves them dazzled!
Yawn. Make it stop.
| by Anonymous | reply 25 | April 20, 2023 2:01 AM |
He’s still around? I will never ever ever ever ever ever ever watch anything that he is in. Ever.
| by Anonymous | reply 26 | April 20, 2023 2:36 AM |
He lives speaking “his power”. Apparently no one’s allowed to have an opinion except him. That whole “question me at your own peril” is overconfident, faux black intellect speak that he no doubt rehearses in the bathtub before every appearance. Black people in America are enraged that white people have started to question them and dare see them as something more than coddled victim class. Years of yelling “RACISM!” has finally backfired. Billy Porter is an example of that and people are only going to grow more tired of him.. Seethe racist black queens. SEETHE! LOL!!

Billy is one of the most talented actor-singers ever. He's also had a lot of pain and struggle throughout his life. Despite that, he has a good heart, which is hard to encounter in Hollywood. In these times when gay people are oppressed beyond belief, we identify with his struggles and he ours.
| by Anonymous | reply 28 | April 20, 2023 3:08 AM |
Did James Baldwin ever wear fabulous dresses?
| by Anonymous | reply 29 | April 20, 2023 3:08 AM |
...and if Billy's bio doesn't get raves, big bucks, and awards, will he react like the other Billy we love so much here?
| by Anonymous | reply 30 | April 20, 2023 3:21 AM |
Really unfortunate that Don Cheadle, who has the right facial features and body type, and who is a real actor who no doubt could embody Baldwin brilliantly, doesn't have the chance to do so and this tiresome stunt queen does.

I want a Billy Porter, Viola Davis, Jada Pinkett Smith movie. Mmmmmm, yes I do.
| by Anonymous | reply 32 | April 20, 2023 4:01 AM |
I agree R31. Don Cheadle is great.
| by Anonymous | reply 33 | April 20, 2023 4:13 AM |
I don’t understand why he is so hated on here. He is a big queeny man. They do still exist. And yes he can act. I’ve seen him in the Get Down and Law & Order SVU.
| by Anonymous | reply 34 | April 20, 2023 4:48 AM |
R28, what TF are you smoking?
| by Anonymous | reply 35 | April 20, 2023 4:56 AM |
[quote] "Did James Baldwin ever wear fabulous dresses?"
He didn't need to, R29. He had intelligence, and discernable talent.
| by Anonymous | reply 36 | April 20, 2023 5:01 AM |
The only thing I've ever seen him in is an episode of Law and Order SVU.
He was a ham
| by Anonymous | reply 37 | April 20, 2023 5:02 AM |
He seems high maintenance.
| by Anonymous | reply 38 | April 20, 2023 5:27 AM |
[quote] And yes he can act.
No, he can "perform" but that does not mean he can act. He's the male Jennifer Hudson. The only difference is Billy uses "haughty fabulousness" to approximate a performance, whereas Jennifer Hudson just says her lines while she gives a 1000 yard stare because they aren't making it into her brain. Neither can act. One just knows how to fool the hayseeds a little better.
| by Anonymous | reply 39 | April 20, 2023 6:31 AM |
I'd love to see Cheadle as Baldwin too.
| by Anonymous | reply 40 | April 20, 2023 6:49 AM |
I wouldn't. Out gay actor for the role, please.
| by Anonymous | reply 41 | April 20, 2023 7:08 AM |
Why, if Don Cheadle is the best option for the role? That's a really stupid concept, only out gay actors can play gay roles. Who gives a fuck? Don Cheadle is a wonderful actor and an Oscar and Emmy nominee. He's got a bigger name than Billy Porter and he's a way better actor.
And by the way, if you say only out gay actors should play gay roles, then surely you believe that only openly straight actors should play straight roles. It's the exact same concept.
| by Anonymous | reply 42 | April 20, 2023 8:27 AM |
The 2 Billy's - Porter and Eichner - have that same issue of trying way too hard to the point it becomes insufferable, and then it turns you off from the work. Just let the actual work speak for itself. If it's good, then people will get it. But trying to beat folks over the head with it before it's even made or released doesn't work.
| by Anonymous | reply 43 | April 20, 2023 8:34 AM |
I agree with the above, he’s a performer and not an actor. Carol Burnet and Dolly Parton are the same.
| by Anonymous | reply 44 | April 20, 2023 1:31 PM |
I'm pretty sure "adjudicate" doesn't mean what Billy thinks it does.
| by Anonymous | reply 45 | April 20, 2023 1:40 PM |
Do Baldwin's estate/family have a say in who plays Baldwin.?Such a seminal figure. as a gay man of color. Billy wrong on sooooo many levels for this role. Hope it won't tarnish Baldwin's halo.
| by Anonymous | reply 46 | April 20, 2023 2:32 PM |
Sounds like Billy is the one who doubts his talent. If he didn't he wouldn't care what anyone else thinks.
| by Anonymous | reply 47 | April 20, 2023 3:07 PM |
She is ugly both inside and out.
| by Anonymous | reply 48 | April 20, 2023 3:11 PM |
Apparently both immature and coddled, he needs to think more realistically.
| by Anonymous | reply 49 | April 20, 2023 3:13 PM |
[quote]Sounds like Billy is the one who doubts his talent. If he didn't he wouldn't care what anyone else thinks.
He literally said he doesn't care what other people think.
[quote]Apparently no one’s allowed to have an opinion except him.
He never said no one is allowed to have an opinion. Saying "I don't give a shit about other people's opinions" does NOT mean "they cannot have an opinion" This is the same logic Trumpers use whenever they're criticized.
| by Anonymous | reply 50 | April 20, 2023 4:05 PM |
Don Cheadle???
Are you fucking kidding me? The man was a regular on THE GOLDEN PALACE for God’s sake!
I am a star, people!

Baldwin was an intellectual and Porter is a cross dresser. I don’t see how a performer, not an actor, whose specialty is gender-bending fashion, can portray one of this country’s most important thinkers.
| by Anonymous | reply 52 | April 21, 2023 1:04 AM |
That he's writing the screenplay is more worrisome to me than the acting. Maybe a good director can wrangle a decent performance. Will this even get made? Also within the category of black, gay-themed films, HBO is supposedly going to make movies of Invisible Life and other E. Lynn Harris novels, but I haven't seen much since they announced it over a year ago.
| by Anonymous | reply 53 | April 21, 2023 1:15 AM |
HBO went through a lot of changes in the past year. I wouldn't necessarily expect anything like that to still be in development.
Further, does anyone really want to see E Lynn Harris novels turned into film? If anyone would take him on it would be Starz or Peacock, both of which are really gunning for black customers.
| by Anonymous | reply 54 | April 21, 2023 1:25 AM |
R54, I would, for a couple reasons, but I'm not sure there's a huge market for it. If James Earl Hardy's B Boy Blues can make it to film (though it didn't do much); I'd like to think Invisible Life could. I was in college when it came out and it was such an iconic book among black gay men, and maybe a bit beyond. I'm interested simply to see what they'd do with it. I'd also like to see if it can be improved. It's an important book to me, but rereading it recently, it's really not well written. But that was part of the charm I guess.

[quote] "I want a Billy Porter, Viola Davis, Jada Pinkett Smith movie. Mmmmmm, yes I do."
I want the documentary about the making of that movie.
| by Anonymous | reply 57 | April 21, 2023 6:40 PM |
R39 I disagree but I love your assessment of his “no talent” in your eyes. I really like the way u laid that down. My friends say I’m biased when it comes to black and/or gay performers because I feel protective of them.
Now Queen Latifah that’s a non acting thot.
| by Anonymous | reply 58 | April 21, 2023 7:10 PM |
He still better not be kissing no man on screen.
| by Anonymous | reply 59 | April 21, 2023 7:11 PM |

Oppressed beyond belief? Not in the USA. We’ve never had it better.

This is far more soothing than having to listen to another Billy Porter interview.
