Did DL like? His skull scarves are brilliant.

Very original and at times, brilliant. (But not always.) He was an unstable depressive introvert (like a lot of us) who should have had access to the very best of medical and psychiatric care--but he didn't avail himself. And he took his own life.

Fashion is a fucked-up, relentless business. So many bright talents burn out, self destruct, suicide. I think the level of hyperbole (mythic! legendary! transformative!) doesn't help matters a bit. The tedious reality is you're designing another sweater. Or a skirt. Or a handbag. Hope it sells. The end.

I think a lot of us are hugely bored with fashion and the scene. (I know I am.) Living and working at home in my sweatpants has put all of that BS on pause.

I saw a bunch of his creations up-close during the exhibition at the Met a bunch of years ago. Mind-blowing.

Yes, the MET show was gorgeous. One of the best Costume Institute shows yet.

A great artist who will not be forgotten. He was one of those shining people who rise above.

I forgot until I clicked on the links in the thread, I actually often get goosebumps when I see his work

I loved the MET exhibit.

There's a nice documentary about his life out.

He was an incredibly gifted designer. Gothic/punk elevated to the highest degree. If you own a great designer piece then you know it’s the cut, the details, how they feel & look on you that sets them apart. It irritates me when people like Kanye say they should be in the upper echelons of fashion and assume they’re just as skilled as some of these artists. Tan body stockings my ass

I watched the McQueen documentary on Netflix the other day. They don’t go much into Isabella Blow’s history, but they note she was devastated that he didn’t bring her along in his deal with Gucci. Interesting article on her, though. The documentary said how McQueen went to the dinner party she threw where she poisoned herself after, but that he stayed in his bedroom and didn’t join the group. After reading this, I wonder now if he couldn’t take her constant threats of suicide. For as much success as they had as well as celebrity “friends”, their lives seemed pretty empty.

He was overrated.

Of his peer group, I always preferred John Galliano.
