C. Thomas Howell.
Ponyboy in The Outsiders, starring role in Soul Man (where he met ex-wife Rae Dawn Chong), then he just kinda vanished for 25 years before turning up in a small role in the Spiderman reboot (which is now being rebooted again, so he's out of luck there, too), looking older and more haggard than his years (he's only in his forties).

CTH has been CONSTANTLY working, In 2005, he had the Tom Cruise role in a cheap version of "War Of The Worlds" AND he did the sequel.
He's starred in dozens of Syfy original movies and other low budget films.
But he has never been not working.

He still acts but less and less.

I believe Enos cut way back on pursuing acting roles when his wife became ill and died within a few years after they were married. This was covered in soap opera magazines, as he'd previously been a contract player on daytime's Y&R (until Eric Braeden worked to get him canned - the rumor anyway). I've seem him show up in a couple of episodic network dramas over the last couple of years, so maybe he's trying to work again.

R15 Ken Wahl does charity work for the military and I think animals. Him and the Barbie twins have a Facebook page, so I heard.
His story is he fell down a flight of stairs in a mansion and either broke bones in his back or neck, and was in constant pain and couldn't work.
A shame really. Could never forget his hotness in The Wanderers.

A shame about Tom Sizemore too. Very talented and good-looking but drugs and hookers ruined everything.

I always found it interesting that John Stockwell, with his original name, was really a little rich kid who hung out with Andy Warhol back in the day -- according to Warhol's diaries. He seemed like some typical jock from Iowa or something but no... he was a NYC kid doing God knows what. (He also directed "Turistas" with hottie Josh D.)
That's DL fave Michael Schoeffling aka Jake Ryan from "16 Candles" in that clip if he hasn't been ID'd yet. Talk about a great kiester.
Also speaking of... ran into Lee Montgomery at Aaron's Records on Melrose back in the 80s (around the "Girls..." period and he was adorable, even a little dirty looking. And one of those naturally amazing bodies -- big head, tiny frame. I can't believe he didn't become a huge star then (after being a rather dorky looking kid actor). He was truly hot. AND he could dance.

John Enos quickly became a popular favourite on Y&R. Many fans wanted to see him paired with Nikki Newman, and really, his character Bobby was a genuine threat to Victor. I don't doubt that Braeden felt threatened by Enos because he was younger, hotter and fans were tired of seeing Nikki with Victor and preferred Bobby.

Matthew Modine He was a lot of movies in the 80's and early 90's and just sorta disappeared. He wasn't great looking and not much of an actor. He must have had a sugar daddy that ended up dying or something leaving the no talent ass candy boy on his own.

R25 That was the prevailing rumor when Enos got canned. And MTS was not happy about it, as she lurved working with him and she saw a future for Nikki and Bobby. She threw Enos a really nice going away party (off-set). She also attended his wedding the following year.

r39 I thought Matthew Modine was VGL. By his own admission -- I've not seen pics -- he's quite dongful. I don't remember the movie, but when he auditioned for something, he made the size of his penis a selling point. I saw him in a bit part in Too Big to Fail (not a pun), a dull movie about the 2008 financial crisis (I only got through half an hour). He was fully clothed.

Pamela Franklin had a great career as a child actress in the early 1960s, appearing in a lot of prestigious movies like "The Innocents", and then she also had a good career as a teen actress, appearing as a schoolgirl in "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie". She then moved to doing some horror movies in the early 1970s, but then she abruptly quit and never worked again as an actress.
I always wondered, pre-IMDB, what happened, and then didn't find out much from IMDB. It was only when I listened to the DVD commentary for PoMJB that I learned she had quit 'the business' because she got tired of being treated shabbily. Directors would refer to her as 'the girl', not even bother to learn her name, and she just got tired of it. What was the point to building up a good career and training just to be treated like a disposable napkin. So, she turned her back and walked away forever.

People need to realize that maintaining a successful ongoing acting career is very difficult. The vast majority of actors that do get good roles do so for a limited period of time. Those who keep it going for 10 or more years are the luck ones. That's why it's important that actors develop a good network of contacts, don't burn bridges, buy a modest home, and save as much as you can from your earnings to survive the leaner years.

Matthew Modine was a nutjob -- directors didn't like working with him. He also didn't really cut it as a leading man, and couldn't do the character actor thing either. So there was no room....
Ken Wahl was also quite crazy.
John Enos was amazing looking in a series of B- movies he did in the 90s. But he just didn't care enough to pursue a career.
Steve Bond was a rent boy and scared everyone away.
Parker Stevenson was, indeed, gay. But that wasn't why he didn't have a career -- he was also a bad actor.

As a little gayling of the 80s, I had a huge crush on Barret Oliver--the kid from The Neverending Story, DARYL and Cacoon. He was the Macaulay Culkin of the 80s.
But once he hit his pre-teen years he disappeared and left acting completely.
For the longest time, no one had any idea what happened to him, but he eventually resurfaced as an esteemed photographer.
Too bad he looks like Terl from Battlefield Earth now but, seeing as how he's a Scientologist, I guess that's a popular look amongst that crowd.
Still, despite all that, his puppy brown eyes will always hold a special place in my inner gay kid's heart.

R71 is quite right about all of them.
I also once met Enos, back in the 90s. He did a few films in which he was simply amazing looking. Amazing. But he was into partying and sex and basically having as much fun as he could. He just didn't care enough -- which was also true for his modeling career. And, he stopped working out and lost his appeal.
Still, I don't think I've ever met a better looking man in my life.
(Runner up would be that Dukes replacement Chip Mayer -- another stunning guy -- but in his case, a combination of drugs, becoming a rightwing Christian, and being basically insane ended his career and, unfortunately, led to his death.)

Hart Bochner was hot for a while in the late 1970s and '80s.
But since then he has done work of such little consequence, I can't remember the last time I've seen him in anything.
Here's a pic from War and Remembrance

A twofer: Richard Tyson and his co-star Casey Siemaszko from a great movie titled "Three O'Clock High." I know they did other things but I expected them both to be much bigger. Richard Tyson was like a fucking sexy beast on film, I couldn't take my eyes off of him.

Robert Hays used to do tons of tv movies. Haven't seen him in anything in years, though.

In 1998, McDermott enrolled in the School of Visual Arts, where he studied photography and art. After graduation, he moved to Los Angeles. In 2003, McDermott moved to Galveston, Texas, where he paints and sells real estate. Active in local politics, he has served on numerous boards and committees, and in 2010 was appointed to the Galveston Park Board of Trustees. McDermott married Laura Hughes in 2011.[citation needed]

Skeet Ulrich

Richard Grieco
Mercedes Ruehl
Dan Futterman
Surprisingly, most of the cast of FRASIER: Peri Gilpin (Roz), David Hyde Pierce (Niles), Dan Butler (Bulldog). I'd say John Mahoney (Frasier's Dad, Martin), but I think he's very much retired at this point. He must be about 80.

Dan Futterman mostly writes now. I know he was nominated for an Oscar several years ago.

R147 you bet I do. As a budding gay-to-be as a teen, I bought pleated pants and a vest so I'd look like him in the Dr. Pepper commercials. Loved those! He was so wholesome but sexy at the same time

John Mahoney appears occasionally with Steppenwolf Theater in Chicago, of which he's a member, though the last time I saw him was a couple of years ago. He's not that good an actor, but he seems like a nice and charming man. David Hyde Pierce does theatre, too, I believe. I was wondering about Peri Gilpin myself recently; maybe she took the money and ran, since roles on hit TV shows like that don't come along very often.
Also, I agree with R72 that Matthew Modine was cute and a good actor. He turned up in Netflix's "Stranger Things."

David Hyde Pierce is currently starring in an off-Broadway show at NY's prestigious Playwrights Horizons. This spring he'll be co-starring opposite Bette Midler in the Broadway revival of Hello, Doll! He's hardly stopped working, but it's mostly in the NY theater.
John Mahoney is an old grouchy, cranky gay. Worked with him about 10 years ago. Never stopped smoking or complaining. Yeccchhhh.

Interesting, R152. I thought someone here had a story about his being really nice, though private, but I could see him being either way. Ironically, since he grew up in England, the English accent I've heard him use onstage seems cringingly bad. At least, that's my perception. Someone who knows better can contradict me.

What I remember most are the copious amounts of nude scenes he did in AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON showing his bubble butt (and some frontal).

R8 and R16- you may want to check out a late 80s b-movie called "Under The Boardwalk" featuring young Richard Joseph Paul and Brian Wimmer. It's a really lame beach movie but they look really good in it.

Michael O'Hare - played some best friend roles, in films like "The Promise," then had some kind of recurring role in a sci-fi series. Offbeat good looks.

Georganne LaPiere. Cher's half-sister. She started out on "General Hospital" as the original Heather Grant Webber, didn't renew her contract, walked away and made a few other movies, then disappeared. Her Imdb shows no activity for years.

Matt Keeslar became a nurse. The last film I saw Johnathan Schaech in was that horrible Prom Night remake. They were so hot making out with each other in the film SPLENDOR.
Also WEHT Kathleen Robertson? She was like an older Kristen Bell.

R162 I was distraught over Nick Stahl. He was like the love of my life growing up and then he just drifted onto Skid Row seemingly never to return. I'm not usually a Mary! over celebrities/actors but I was goddamn relieved when he came back fine and quietly started working again. He's such a sweet humble dude and really talented, would have been a shame to lose him.

I have PTSD over attractive former actors disappearing since the tragedy of Mike Man tenu to from Kurt Russell's MIRACLE.
He voluntarily quit the business after like three films because he wanted to provide for his family, and joined the military where he was decorated. He served for several years in difficult tours of Iraq and surrounding areas, and became a Sergeant leading his own unit. Then, last Spring he took a leave of absence for his mental health and went missing for a few days - only to turn up dead of a gunshot headwound slumped in his car in a Washington State Park. Horrifying, and it's haunted me ever since.
Doesn't help either that he was gorgeous, incredibly well-liked & spoken of by everyone and had some natural star quality (he never did enough acting for us to know whether he was talented or not). He also left two kids and a wife. He's missed.

Just looked it up and the last major movie Jordan Brower did was in 2001 (TEXAS RANGERS, he had 60 seconds screentime).
Hell, the last movie he shot period came out in 2011 and as it's once of those schlocky b-horrors it was probably on the shelf a few years before that. He's got a wife and kid so he likely just stayed home all these years to keep house. Shame, he was really good and played a few gay roles with tenderness and depth. We could really have used him in our corner.

ikr R180. I muse on what he could have done with his looks & talent the last decade. It's so bizarre to me that Vincent Kartheiser kept working and got a Netflix deal while Jordan Brower quit. Jordan got married and had a kid in the mid '00s, which is sometimes a carer death sentence for an artistic type.
Jordan was still pretty c. 10 years ago, but I can't find a more recent pic. Here's a still of him from his penultimate project HALLETTSVILLE, shot in 2008/9.
