A while back someone mentioned Spanish Bar Cake. I now crave some again.

With that Spanish Bar Cake costing $37,50, it doesn't see like the WEO is still part of the A&P philosophy.

A&P WEO had so many initials in its name, I wonder how many more they would have added if they had survived.
Sort of like how LGBTQ keeps adding more initials to its name.

This pandemic has made me comparison shop stores and my local within 1 block market charges twice what Walmart down the street charges on a number of my favorite go-items - granted I didn't want to venture far during the height of the pandemic but I can walk a few more blocks now. I didn't even know Walmart (in an old Rite Aid store) sold groceries.

Atlantic and Pacific stores were foundational in establishing the national supermarket chain economy. I like that they had the coffee bean grinders right there at the end of the check out.

As a child I would stay for weeks with my great aunts in NYC during the summers and I loved those city grocery stores. The bean grinders were fascinating to me. Actually I don't remember going to grocery stores much as a child when at home. That was what adults did. We stayed home.

R7 - not far from me there's a Walmart grocery-only store. Prices are decent, but honestly it has a The Poors vibe about it, more so than a regular Wal Mart.
My folks preferred the A&P weo to the Shop Rite across the street; when it closed, they switched to a Foodtown in the other direction from home.

The main thing I remember about A&P was that in 1982 it was the grocery store where I fainted at the checkout one day after having been sick for several days with a stomach virus.
