$40 a Day with Rachael Ray

Writer Robert Guerrero

$40 a Day was the show that brought me to Datalounge. Well, first it took me to the late, great "Television Without Pity" and then here.

I miss bitching about Rachael tipping poorly all around the globe. I miss her constant suggestions to buy a local paper to scour for coupons and blue plate special announcements.

She spent the day in my hometown once, and there was no way she only spent $40 on all she ate (this was the subject of my first post here nearly 20 years ago)

I would seriously pay to watch the show now even though I figure most of the places featured have closed. For all of the annoyances, it was an interesting tour of a city and the format was genius. The threads on here used to get quite long, of course, most of them devolved into debating Ray's sexual life. (Didn't her husband bite someone or something?)

Anyway....is it streaming anywhere I am missing? There are a few clips on YouTube, but no full episodes. I had high hopes for Discovery+ but no deal.

Any less legal options?

I recall the show. Ray, who has been around forever, was young and cute. One of the tips? getting a free drink in a bar!

Bullshit, she eats more than that in peanut butter cups alone.

I LOVED this show. Several episodes used to be on Youtube but, as the OP said, there are now only clips. I would get a kick out of seeing where she would go next and couldn't wait to see how she managed to get three meals (and a snack sometimes) on just 40 bucks. She would sometimes go over, but not by much. Those were the good old days of TFN before it became The Guy Fieri Network.

I absolutely hated the way she said "coupons."

How did she pronounce “Coupon”?

She ate three meals a day on $40. She should have only eaten one.

That show was fun to watch and laugh at. Oh, how she loved her alcohol. And how poorly she tipped.

She went to Chicago and ate at Navy Pier which is a tourist trap. She was buying overpriced popcorn and a soda. I think she spent three bucks. In reality the bag is almost ten and the coke not cheap either. “They had a dead” is her bullshit refrain. No. The tourist popcorn chain never has a deal. Ever. That bukkshit deal stuff and the lowly tips made it obnoxious. She could have just ate out and dropped that cheapo shit and use it to show people how to go out and be normal. Show tipping correctly. Jesus. Nobody needs help to be dumb and ask every restaurant they go in for a handout.

I never understood why they just didn't make the rules "not including tax and tip." It would still be a challenge, and no one would feel like she was a bitch for only tipping 75 cents on a $10 tab.

I used to watch this show too when I came across it on the Food network. That was before they had all those competitions and showed people besides Guy Fieri. And yes, I used to think what a cheapskate she was too. It also amazed me how much food she put away both on this show and her own.
