r19 old news.. that was being pushed about a decado go.
Both Salon and The Stranger brought on this sort as columnist. . . they didn't last over a yer, I think...
It was the quest of ok, gay rights are now done, what's next... and you saw the media desperately searching by following the trends of sjw tumblr and campus activists.
Does anyone know why it came about?
It was under the guise of anti-islamophobia and immigration. . . at first - the problems of white educated savors and their paternalistic attitudes towards noble savages. . . while pushing out reformists or americanized muslims -- you know, saw a similar thing in the 60s with this kind of fetishism, too. They didn't want the normies, they wanted the most exotic of the exotic that would give ol'dear waspy, nothing phases me, mum a heartattack.
it's also where you see the terrorist tied far leftist campus groups move "pink washing" away for corporate criticism towards their social enemies, like Jews. . . and well, you're more respectable, integrated, everyday lgbt, and of course, American imperialism. etc.
like the most hated Muslim reformist in those years was a dark skin liberal lesbian canadian refugee... in favor of a lily white privileged new yorkjer, alleged former party girl, turned fundamentalist. . . that champions the most homophobic places on earth as lgbt paradises only affected by western propaganda.
but I digress. . . it's had different stages of being hijacked, like those that don't understand what the protest against the uk's age of consent laws were about... or even that of the u.s.'s or infamous subcult groups that were largely abandoned by the community and hijacked by others.
Also, two-spirited was never broadly accepted among native americans -- it was manufactured in the 90s, the closest resembles relates to only one tribe and was removed far from context.. but that's to be expected when most people view native americans an archaic throwback, a living anthropology museum exhibit and celebrated as fiction as a magical people that paints with all the colours of the rainbow... having more in common with wild elves than with humans. mystical, magical, exotic, always dressed in full regalia.. than as real people.
likewise, there were several names from other racial and ethnic demographics that never really caught on... even the african american ones which tried to put a distinction betwen homosexuality exhibited among african americans vs every other group, including africans... but tht was less to do with gay politics than to do with the fractional wars among feminists of vrious backgrounds, which birthed misogynoir... but all of which, I believe, we can firmly blame on Paris Hilton for initializing the trademark/copyright wars of catch phrases and single words.
